I just want to know. All my friends say the 3D ones are better, but personally I like the older 2D ones more. So which do you like?

The 3d ones. I don't have the patience to map all of the identical rooms in the 2d ones.

Both of them are actually good. 3d or metroid prime has a different feel than the metroid 2d counterpart but it's still great. Possibly the latest installment which combines 3d and 2d that may feel inferior to the past metroid installment (Despite the irony of combining those 2 elements which could have made metroid great). Though it's still early to say since I haven't played it yet and I'll never based my judgement in games that official game reviewers has passed judgement on already.

my favourite is the 2D line.. something about it is just so classic. i find that the 3D ones are just an attempt at spreading the game over more than one genre, when it was unique as a 2D.

Hm, that would be tough...I enjoy all Metroid games regardless, but if I had to choose, then it would be the classic 2D environments.I was born in the late 1980s so I had the privilege to experience all forms of gaming experiences and consoles as more and more came into existence as I grew up.

I love the 2d ones especially my all time favorite super metroid. I nearly flipped my top when Samus gain the power from the metoid. It was so awesome.

the older 2d ones definitely are still fun, even after all these years. they ran well, stuck to the mechanics, and were overall a fun experience. the newer 3D ones though, that is to say the prime series (not gonna count other M XP) brought a whole new level of immersion that definitely make them a blast to play. a good example is say, super metroid. any of the boss battles certainly worried me but they weren't difficult in the long run. the metroids themselves were scary, but you could see them coming around a corner, so to speak, so not that bad. metroid prime on the other hand, not being able to see everything in a 360 around you and the sense of movement....well, i remember practically getting vertigo from falling off a ledge once during a really deep session of play, thats how much they draw me in :gs:

I find both the 2-d and 3-d metroids to be great but I enjoy the 2-d ones a little more. The 3-d ones offered a different way to play metroid and at first it seemed weird but once you got use to the controls it became a fun game to play. However, one thing that really bothered me was the difficulty in aiming in metroid. If the gamecube had a better dual analog system such as the xbox or ps2 it would have made the 3d series so much better. The 2-d games have great controls and playing the game feels easy and more natural. The newer 2-d games such as metroid fusion proved to me that the 2-d series is superior to the 3-d series at this point.

Honestly, I prefer the newer ones, but that is only because I never played the 2D Games when I was young. I also haven't played any of the GBA Metroids, but maybe if I tried them, my opinion would change a bit.
