I'd have to say, it would be more like Dexter. Not necessarily elements associated with it, just a dark passenger that rides along and tells me to do things that I shouldn't.

i read a few books in the saga of recluce series and they associated "order" with darkness or black and "chaos" was associated with white. "order magic" was more about subtle maniplulation than flinging fireballs around (although later on i remember one of the characters throwing "order bolts" at someone).

this related to the book you're trying to write?

If your serious with the book about dark elements, give mahou sensei negi a read. I forgot the exact name, but the main character, Negi, gains an attribute to darkness somewhere around chapter 210 which gave his main arsenal quite a boost in anime terms. Gravity may not be an attribute to darkness, at least for me. Though you might be thinking of black hole or "The void" that tries to suck everything in, including light. One last bit of a good reference, but something you might get into. Try to find the Tome of Magic Rulebook of dungeons and dragons 3.5 edition and lookup the shadowcaster class and their spell list.

darkness always seem like the power that eclipses light and dominates for the longest time but has repercussions hence no one would want to be them

darkness is pretty awesome powers to have rather than the weak light

In what way is light weak? Darkness and Lightness are basically opposites. Though if you are thinking about Star War's force terms, then yes Dark force powers are much more powerful than light force powers. Though that is only in terms of offensive powers. When one is more attuned to the Dark side of the force, it eats away their life (or constitution score) which makes them look more disfigured physically. Same holds true to the one I mentioned before about Negima. When Negi uses dark magic he learned from evangeline (a dark loli vampire which meru would like) it also eats away his life.darkness is pretty awesome powers to have rather than the weak light

Agreed. Light and Dark, as overused as this line is, light and dark are just two sides of the same coin.

Dark mater in space, gravity, dark thoughts and destruction like war can be attributed to the darkness element all of which are my favorite
