Since I cannot download this game (a freezing anti-piracy glitch at the beginning prevents any real game-play) I am looking into buying it.Has anyone played this game before? Would you recommend it?I've been able to try a bit of game-play, and any reviews I've found are quite positive, but I'd like to hear user opinions rather than just a magazine or website (yes, they're credible, but sometimes are too harsh or sugar-coat it).

Well you can get the game to work if you can tell us what flashcart you're using. The game is very popular and thus there are quite some fixes for the game.Anyways, 999 is a graphic novel, there's about 80% text and 20% puzzles, so you're going to read a lot. The writing however and the atmosphere it gives off is right on target, also due to the good localization. The game begins with a very rough start, and it only gets rougher from there (the game has a lot of death and also gore, the gore however is mostly off-screen though). If you're of the weak of heart, the game might not be good for you. the game does have some weaknesses, mostly the point-and-click syndrome. It's not as bad as most games from the point-and-click era, but you do have to tap quite a bit around before you eventually hit the desired spot. I'm not really disclosing much on the game, but personally I'd recommend playing the game if you don't mind reading (note: I actually hate reading, a lot, but I got sucked into this game)

If you enjoy stories and reading then i think you would enjoy it. Most of the game is reading and if you hate that kind of stuff don't get it. I personally enjoyed it a lot, and played through it a few times to get the different endings. It was kinda like reading a thriller novel in my opinion. Some of my friends tried it though and absolutely hated it. They couldn't get over the fact the amount of reading they had to do. At first I couldn't play it either, until I actually sat down and got ready to read through it, then the story was actually really interesting, especially when you go through with the different endings and see how your decisions affected what happened. (I hope that isn't spoiling it, I'm assuming you knew that you got to make decisions and the choices affected the outcome of the game)Definitely get the game if you're into that stuff, if you enjoyed Hotel Dusk or Trace Memory I think you'd enjoy this.

It was released only in Japan and the US. I'm playing through it and I'm only on the second puzzle, but I love it so far.

One of the most engrossing storylines I've seen. Definitely worth the price if you choose to buy it.

I normally shy away from suspense and horror games (way too creepy and they scare the hell out of me), but I have to say that 999 was worth conquering my fears for. It has an amazing story and memorable characters. As others have said, it's a lot (A LOT) of reading, but the writers were going strong when they put this one together.

I actually got into this game quite a lot. I thought the story was very interesting in that you learned little by little what the characters went through and how hey we're connected. I in no way saw the ending coming :)
