So I got it in my head to try to learn japanese. I harken back to my younger days, and I realize that I learned alot of English playing videogames, so I was hoping that something similar could be achieved to learn Japanese.

I'm really enjoying My Japanese Coach, can anyone recommend any other games to help me learn? I'm just getting the hang of Hiragana and Katakana.

Badboys, try not to derail the thread jesus. EDIT: The game is not in English. THATS ALL THERE IS TO IT.

Now then, I'll go searching for some but first, I found these nonvidyagames:
http://www.amazon.co...8150821-2197517
http://www.amazon.co...8150821-2197517

Now then! FOR VIDEO GAMES!
I found this article, which has a lot of DS-related stuff:
http://www.1up.com/f...gh-videogames
http://www.japantoda...r-money-can-buy
http://jaybot7.com/b...-learn-japanese

I got the vibe from the sentence "i learned a lot of english from videogames" that it was your nonformer language, but that might not be right. I've always thought hte idea of reading Japanese might be neat, but I would never do it so I could play a few foreign titles, myself. I would probably need some sort of financial motivation to even bother.

Secretly I still get some kind of idiotic urge to learn it so I can play games unreleased outside of Japan. I never act on it, but let me know if you're successful.

Many of the good original games like pokemon monster hunter would still be enjoyable to play even in japanese.

Not really about video games but this is a very good read on several resources that will help you learn Japanese: http://gbatemp.net/t...the-nihongo-faq

The topic maker is a really sympathetic guy and will most probably answer your questions if you ask him nicely. I've seen quite some good feedback up there, so it might be worth it to read through it a bit.

I really appreciate those links Laughsassin. I don't think it's an idiotic urge to want to improve yourself, just learning new things, any new thing really, sharpens your mind and makes you more confident.

It's not a DS game, but Slime Forest Adventure is pretty good so far.

Any Pokemon game in Japanese can help you practice reading.

Pokemon dialogues are always fully in Hiragana and Katakana only, so you can actually read out all the characters without worrying about the Kanji side of things.
Only issue is: You probably still won't necessarily understand what they are talking about, so this is where a dictionary comes in to learn about meanings.
