I'm thinking of getting an Acekard for my kid's DSi - as I had read that it has a nice interface. What's I'm concerned about though is that I need it to be as simple as possible and limit what can be done - as my kid is only 5 years old - so obviously he doesn't need to go into any of the settings and such, just start and play the games.

Just thought I would see what any of you have to say or recommend...

Thanks

Tough luck in this regard.....

Although the dsi has lockout options it does not work with a flashcart at all. Flashcarts are mostly aimed towards more advanced users because they appeal to them a lot more. This means that all the settings are easily accessed and changed. Interface isn't something people usually discuss about a flashcart, so the only thing I can recommend is looking up some reviews online about them (gbatemp.net is a pretty good source).

The only thing I can say is that you have to watch out which flashcart you buy and how often you update the dsi. A lot of flashcarts do not work on the dsi and nintendo is very keen on blocking flashcarts, or games that run through a flashcart. Also note that even less flashcarts can run games on a 3ds, if you do that, you are also limited to only playing ds games as well.

Thanks for the reply shadowmanwkp. I went ahead and ordered an AceKard2i - as it appears to be compatible with most of the DS devices (DSi, 3DS, DS Lite, etc). I guess I'll just have to make sure that I explain to the kid that he's not supposed to mess around with the settings and such. We'll see how that goes... haha

Cheers!

Well I just remembered that there is a way to at least save the settings of the flashcart easily. I don't know how much knowledge you have of flashcarts, but the general procedure is to put the firmware from the disc that comes with the flashcart or is located on the manufacturer's site onto a micro SD. After that you go to the manufacturer's website and install an update by overwriting the firmware's files with the files from the update.

Here's the part where I want to get at: when you put the files onto the flashcart it will have all the default settings. It might be a good idea to back those files up, in case your settings are set wrong. In case of your child setting the wrong settings, you can simply overwrite the firmware files on your micro SD with your backup's. Another way to alter default the settings is to look for a configuration file (usually a *.ini file), but these differ per flashcart and may be hard to find.

Thanks again shadowmanwkp. That's not a bad idea (backing up the microSD card).
