IV was pretty good too, i also liked II . I don't really like V as much, the pokemon aren't that original, too many of them are influenced by animals.

I have noticed the senseless names, it's like Nintendo is getting lazy with their translations.

I guess I'm one of the few that likes Gen. V. Granted, my favorite's II mostly because that's the generation of Pokemon I grew up using when I played Gold/Silver, but V has some good ones in the list. Gen. I's also one of the better ones.

For the shows I watched mostly 1 & 3 but then got older and people started considering pokemon "nerdy" so I never did much past that

Well... I'm in my early 40's now (!!!), and I've played every gen of Pokémon since I first played the original jap cart of Green - months before the english translations of Red and Blue were released!
I must admit that it's been almost 8 years since I last played any of the pokémon games, but I recently gave the gen IV and V iterations ago... and although they're still great games, I found them sorely dissapointing. Mainly because the actual pokémon designs just seem poor compared with those of previous generations.
Putting those dissapointments aside, I decided to replay some gen III poké games again - I'm currently replaying Leaf Green on my GBA and Gale of Darkness on my Gamecube (supplemented with ressurrecting old saved games on Sapphire and Pokémon Box to trade with myself, and some downloaded save files for Fire Red on my flash card)!

...so, for me, the pinacle of the series is definitely the gen III era.

I like I and II the best. The others were good as well, the only one i really don't like was IV. Not sure why but that one just did seem as good as all the others.

This is exactly what I was going to post, word for word. I thought it started getting ridiculous at IV, and Im in the middle of V at the moment and its just ridiculous to be honest

Gen III. First I actually played was III, and I also love I and II. But there's something about gen III that just gets me every time.

I've never really got gen IV or V.
Could barely get beyond the beginning of Platinum, but no matter how many times I start a R\S\E, I can finish in a day.

It's not that those gens are bad. There are some good and some bad pokemon in every gen... But in most cases, I want to feel somewhat emotionally connected to my party, and gen III did it the best. IMO.

For me the second generation will always be the best one. I mean, that's when we had a good story and an absolutely huge game with not one but two regions, scaling e4 and all sorts of awesomeness. Plus you got a free shiny, how awesome is that? Plus the generation remake was pretty sweet too, so all around i'm pretty happy with how it all turned out. Gen 5 is a close second for me though, followed by 4th then 3rd and then finally the first gen (which had just so many issues).

Gen II, definitely. An in-game clock, coupled with the ability to rebattle trainers for the first time, although in a limited way. And two new types, and type effectiveness not being peculiar like it was in Gen I.
