So what does everyone think of the controler for the Wii U? I'm a bit skeptical about it. I actually have next to 0 excitement for this system... I don't see how that huge controler is going to be used positively, it reminds me of Dreamcast but worse. You have a huge TV screen AND a huge handheld screen... I think the only good quality this system has is it's actual physical size being as tiny as it is. I love Nintendo but ugh... I really don't understand how so many people are going gaga over this system.

Will the TV loose it's primary function in the long run because of those controlers?

the console just looks like an upgrade to the console.
its like the sega CD or the 32X of the nintendo consoles.
pretty soon we may have a WiiU^2 (squared), with 1080p in both the tv and controller Plus 3d.
I get the graphics upgrades, but it seems like alot and we cant just buy a part to plug in that upgrades the console, we have to buy a whole new console...
and i doubt the wii you will have game cube compatability.
it will have wii compatability, but IDK, the prices so far for preordering games Is way to high, its $100 per game so far.

wow $100 is crazy!!! It's usually the same thing with all new systems, they never backwards compatible more than one prior system. It sucks!

Wii has too many peripherals in the first place, and WiiU sounds overrated. Nintendo is just trying to get more buck for their bang, and I don't like it.

I've seen the Wii-U's controller and I can't stand it myself. It looks like a montrosity really, too big for me to use.

Okay first of all the Wii U tablet controller is only needed for player one. There are up to 5 players, for example in the case of New Super mario bros u, Player 1 makes platforms for player 2-5 to step on during the game. Now that's just that game, other games take advantage of it as a second screen in other ways. And I saw a rumor about it being able to stream the game you are playing directly to the tablet so that the tv is free for others to watch and what not. Now I do admit that the damn thing is huge, but is isn't very heavy and actually rather comfortable to hold. So think of the Wii U as an oversized, overpowered DS where you hold the touch screen instead of the full set of screens. The concept works in a handheld already so why not?

Also to note that players 2-5 use Wiimotes and the wiimote add-ons such as the nunchuck or the classic controller. Or even the wii u pro pad which is basically a stand alone classic controller with a layout change. Though I don't think that the tablet is needed as the main controller all the time. But who knows until we all get the chance to really get our hands on the system.

Though the second screen idea wasn't the first use in a console, remember the gameboy advance and the gamecube? I am sure there might have been previous attempts at this but I can't think of what they would be besides PC.

I won't get one on the grounds that the launch titles suck. A bunch of ports, a hand full of exclusive console concept games gets you used to the control system games sort of thing, and only one Mario game. They are banking on people using the eshop for wiiware and the virtual console for gamecube games and back. Why bother since I still have my wii and gamecube games.

I as well am not a fan of the controller, and one thing I find weird is the fact you can play the game on the controller without the TV, shouldn't it sorta just be considered a handheld device with an expensive wireless cable to the TV or something =P

The console overall seems weak. I don't think that Nintendo's advertising can save it, either. Time will show, I guess.

Well truth be told, the Wii when it was launched the controller freaked people out. Yet somehow it became the best selling console of the generation. Figure that one out.

As for the usability of the tablet controller as the video output of the console. It can do that, but the idea of that only works with Wii U games. not wiiware, virtual console, and wii games on disk. Second they way they are marketing it is so that if someone wants to watch tv at the same time as you play your games.

Everyone thought the Wii was going to be bad -- but it kicked Xbox and PSII butt's for years.  I think the WiiU has a bit if a challenge to prove to the serious gamers that it can be a good system, not meant for little kids and moms who like =Bomberman.  But I've seen Freddie W. and his gang play Luigi's Ghost Mansion on the WiiU and they are having a blast.
