This actually started as a joke (and may still will be) within my office. Since I'm the only gamer within a group of four guys, I'm like some mcguyver to everyone here.

Then I thought about how does everyone define a "true gamer"? Yes we got the casual and hardcore gamer, but are they really a "true gamer"? Does it take just playing any game once to be a gamer or do you need to invest half of your waking life in video games?

my opinion
casual gamers - play simple games just to kill time, for example, tetris on mobile phone when sitting on the bus stop)
hardcore gamers - play games often just to complete the game or get some tiny, useless, but hard achievement. play only those games that they like and deny any others
true gamers - can play every game, every genre, every platform. interested in games for his (her) whole life.
nerds - play games more than 16 hours in day, have little to no life.

i got to say that this opinion comes from my experience. I'm from russia and we have a problem with the games here( We dont have many consoles here, and there are expensive, so many plays mostly the pc games. And what are the most popular pc games now? counter-strike, GTA, WOW and others like them. So its like killing, killing and killing. We dont have ESRB here or something like that, so anyone can buy this games. I dont say that this games are bad, i dont say that because of this games they shoot their teachers in school. But they certainly leave their mark on them( So we have that term "schoololo" for those kids, 10-year old nerds that play that games so often, that they even not go into school.... at all!
I started playing long ago, when i was 6 (i'm 25 now). Then, in 90-s we only have "Dendy", a famiclone, but we didn't know about it, we just play it, for fun, with friends, real friends) we dont have any licensed consoles back there and this clone was way cheaper than any pc. So we have a vice versa now, and most of children with cheap pc and internet think - why do i need friends? i can download pirated version of any game and play it in my home) School, friends, personal life? Nah, never heard...
So i'm now a true oldschool hardcore gamer, because i can play every game, but play mostly oldschool games) For example, i completed Gradius 3 and Bioshock 2 recently)))
Now that i have been invited by my friend to be an admin on his site, i dont have many time to play games. But, from time to time i still return to them)))

PSS another example) in my signature there are 3 games. i only play 1 now, Super street fighter 4, a couple of fights in a day, to strech fingers)... if a have the time))) Street fighter x tekken has its online lags and glithes(( and Diablo.................its too boring for me( I didn't even complete the story)))

I define a true gamer as someone who respects and has the ability to like games of any genre, and someone who makes a conscious effort to not only play and complete a game but also to improve his or her skill in said games.
