So what are your favorite cartons or anime that is under 100 episoes, and why? I am looking to start somthing new.
I love sci fi stuff so I found Ghost in the Shell, Stines;Gate, and Ergo Proxy to be at the top of my list. These animes have a philosophical and scientific nature to them and pose questions that provoke my mind to think of things further.
As long as the story is very good, I don't discriminate.
what is your favorite cartoon/anime under 100 episodes?

Samurai Champloo has to be my favorite. I think it only has 24 episodes? While it may not be SciFi, it will always be the best for me.

Definitely Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
Still my favourite anime of all, actually.
It's a good balance of seriousness and humour, and in my opinion the plot is really good.
Also, I'm currently watching Code Geass, which is pretty sci-fi and has a VERY good plot.

Under 100 episodes narrows it a bit. Let me see my list here...
Furi Kuri or FLCL
Hunter x Hunter
Hikaru no Go
Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Escaflowne
Azumanga Daioh
Golden Boy
Yakitate Japan
History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi
That should do it. I shall explain.
FLCL is a great coming of age story. The characters are interesting, you don't know what's going to happen next, and it has some awesome action. Robots! Guitars! Giant Baseballs! Space Pirates!
Hunter x Hunter is hands down one of my favorite shonen animes. It has action and adventure and a great plot as well. It deals with good and evil somewhat in that there is no real demarcation, there are certainly good guys and bad guys, but they have histories and some development going on. At least, that is what my memory tells me. It has been a while since I saw this honestly. In this universe there are people called Hunters that must pass a rigorous exam to even become one. Thousands attempt it while only a handful can gain the elusive license. The stroy follows Gon Freaks, a young boy that wants to find his father. His father is a powerful Hunter, and young Gon feels that becoming a Hunter is the only way to find and meet him.
Hikaru No Go is rather weird in that it is about a ghost that inhabits the mind of a young boy who goes on to become a Go master. Go is a popular old man game in asian countries and is far more complex than our chess. I suck at the game, but I could still follow the show.
Captain Tylor is an excellent sci-fi show. It's about one Justi Ueki Tylor. He decides to go into the military because he wants an easy life. Using his charms and powerful luck in all things, he goes on to be a great man.
Escaflowne covers two things at once. Not only does the protaganist go into another dimension, they also have giant mecha battle suits called Guymelefs or something. It also has a movie that is pretty good.
Azumanga Daioh is one of the funniest shows I have ever had the pleasure of watching, hands down. It is more of a slice of life kind of show, so if you don't like that, then you might not like this show at all.
Golden Boy is a show that follows Kintaro Oe, a man that goes around Japan on a bicycle trying to learn as much as he can of life.
Yakitate Japan is a show about bread. A very weird and hilarious show about bread.
Finally, Kenichi is about a boy that is bullied quite severely at school until he meets a girl named Furinji Miu. She teaches him a few martial arts moves and he embarks on a quest to become the strongest disciple in history.
This is only a fraction of the shows I like though... I tried to limit them, really I did. Maybe my standards are too low?

I heard of Gode Geass too, it is one of the top anime's according to google. How would you describe the plot?
Alright, let me try this without giving too many spoilers:
After a big conquest campaign, the Holy Empire of Britannia has conquered Japan using humanoid armour vehicles called Knightmares, reducing it to something called Area 11 where alle the Japanese people (now called elevens) are incredibly discriminated.
In Japan lives the exiled prince Lelouch Vi Britannia with his sister Nunnally. Lelouch vowed to bring down Britannia to create a world where his sister can live happily. After meeting a mysterious girl called C.C. he gains a special power called Geass, which gives him absolute dominance over anyone he uses it on.
Using this power, he then starts his big campaign to bring down Britannia, froming a band of freedom fighters from already existent Japanese resistance groups and using his incredible strategic skills to win battle after battle.
To be perfectly honest, the plot didn't really appeal to me at first when I googled it a bit to see what it was about. After seeing a couple of episodes I really recommand it though, Lelouch is quite possibly the awesomest two-faced character I've ever seen.

Although all those other anime are all well and good, I can't believe I forgot about my favorite Anime ever. It is called Giant Robo the Animation. It is a marvelous series. A terrorist group known only as Big Fire seeks to control the world through the Mighty Eye of Volger. Only Daisaku Kusama and Giant Robo have the power necessary to stand up to this diabolical menace. It may not be a well regarded anime, but it holds a special place for me. The music with the atmosphere it creates and the story are both top notch and the characters are fantastic.

Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Always glad to see someone else who likes Tylor! It's still one of my favorite series. It's just a shame the OVAs leave off on such a cliffhanger.
While I could probably list the individual Gundam series, since each of them is less than 100 episodes, it is such a large franchise that even just the Universal Century timeline goes way over that total. I will mention G Gundam as a particular favorite, though, as it stands alone as the least Gundam-like series, but still manages to entertain me.
Along those lines, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is a more recent favorite of mine. Of course, it manages to be even more hot-blooded than G Gundam...
Cowboy Bebop and Trigun remain classic favorites for me as well.

Princess Tutu remains hands-down my favorite anime. Very cutesy, but also has some pretty mature ideas in it, and manages to nicely develop its plot, themes, and characters over the course of twenty-six episodes.
(Despite the avatar, I have mixed feelings on Mawaru Penguindrum. Very weird, dreamlike atmosphere, great soundtrack, has some memorable stuff, but the overarching plot feels a little flat to me.)
The Wolf Children: Ame and Yuki is currently one of my favorite anime movies, and is also one of the few films I've seen that made me cry.
ETA: Missed the "cartoons" part. My favorite cartoon is Transformers: Prime. It's far from a perfect series, but it has some of the most beautiful CG animation I've ever seen in a TV series, and I personally became super attached to several of the characters. Found it a bit inconsistent in terms of writing quality though.
