I normally get the legendary down to as little health as possible, and then paralyse it or put it to sleep. Then I use Ultra Balls. It normally works. Once, in Pokemon Gold, I ran into an Entei just after I left the Goldenrod Gym. Not being far enough to have Ultra Balls, I just randomly chucked a pokeball at it. Guess what happened?"Gotcha! Entei was caught!"How lucky is that?

Groudon and Rayquaza were captured with pokeballs and the 3 regis(Regice Regirock Registeel)were caught with the painless flip of a ultra ball ;).Mewtwo was captured with a timer ball and I had to throw 10-20 of those to get it XD . The ONLY pokemon I used a masterball for was latias.Shucks.....I stink.

it's easy to catch them without master balls, getting them to sleep and low hp, I even caught one with a great ball.

If you have the patience just paralyze them and throw Ultra Balls. I don't even lower their HP and I've caught some with max HP in only a few balls.

I may not be the best source of information on this, as I've never played the GBA Pokemon games (I only just got a Nintendo DS last year for Christmas and never bought any Pokemon games. I only recently started getting interested in Pokemon again). However, I've played through Blue, Yellow, Gold, and Crystal, and I've never been able to catch a legendary Pokemon without a Master Ball. Of course, I wasn't the best gamer when I was younger, so I'm sure it's possible.

Quick question for all those pokemon fans out there. All those Legendary pokemon out there... Ho-Oh, Kygouge, Mewtwo, Zapados, etc... have you EVER caught any one of these without having to use a masterball? I've tried OFTEN, but even at my best attempt, Groudon lost all its PP (no jokes please), and just struggled to death. I went through 10 timer balls and 10 ultra balls, and Groudon had as little power as it could have had, especially after it struggled. I've had this simular problem with just about every other legendary pokemon out there, so I'm just wondering has ANYONE ever caught one without masterballing it?

Masterballing? I hope there was no pun there either. I firmly believe it is possible to catch ANY Pokemon with any pokeball other than the Master Ball. After all, the way the game(s) was originally made there were only one or two ways of earning a Master Ball without cheating. Had Game Freaks intended that a certain Pokemon or a certain group of Pokemon couldn't be caught without using the Master Ball, then don't you think that there would be a way to acquire more Master Balls without cheating? The criteria, I believe, for successfully catching a Pokemon are that your lead Pokemon must have one or more attributes that are higher than the Pokemon that you wish to catch, the Pokemon that you wish to catch must be PARALYZED/SLEEP/WEAK or some condition that would render it impossible for the intended Pokemon to escape. The intended Pokemon must have a low evasion factor, etc. It is possible to catch a legendary Pokemon with an Ultra Ball or a Premier Ball, etc. However, the lower you get in quality of pokeball (towards the Poke Ball), the harder, if not difficult it gets to catch a legendary with one. However, do you really want to waste time with maybe going through 999,999 unsuccessful attempts to capture Deoxys with a Poke Ball, just to have a success with the 1,000,000th Poke Ball? If you really have that kind of time to do this, then go ahead and try. Most people prefer the more direct and quicker route.

I have caught rayquaza, groudon and kyogre using only poke balls.

I have been playing pokemon games for 8 years, and basically in every game the only time i use the masterball is when i am up against either mewtwo, ho-oh, or rayquaza.Other than that i find in pokemon fire red and leaf green i find it is very hard to get zapdos, moltrez, and as well Articuno into the ultraball, but my key that i use is Sleep powder from a grass type or bug, and maybe as well sometimes i use Thunderwave from electric characters. But they arent that difficult to get without a masterball if you know what you are doing.

I once got to Mewtwo on red and ended up putting it to sleep with 2 hp left, so I used a pokeball.
