I think only Luc have any level 4 rune powers

Nope, I think Lorelai and Simone have level 4 magic too.You can recruit them before you fought Luca Blight.

Hmm...smarts would have to be Shu. Leon WAS a pretty intelligent strategist, but...Shu beat him, mainly because Leon assumed that Shu was a coward. Which is something a strategist should NEVER do...assume...

Actually, if you played the Japanese version, in the final battle where Shu beat Leon he plainly admit to him that he was nowhere near as good of a strategist as Leon, however the nice boys and girls over at Konami US stuffed up the translation as they always do. :PIf you want to know more as to why I believe Leon is superior to Shu, read this article. It was written by a guy who has played all the suikodens many times over (including suikogaiden) and he owns most if not all of the manga there is to get, plus he is fluent in both English and Japanese. Lets just say he knows his stuff and even so I double check the info for myself (because I never really take things good for granted) and the information in that FAQ, plus what I found out not only matches, but adds to the whole Leon being a superior strategist thing. He might lack certain morals, but he is a genius when it comes to military tactics. He didn't "assume" Shu was coward... he just taught him not to ever put himself in direct line of danger. Tactics 101. :PAs for the Character... it would be a VERY tough call between Tir McDohl, Riou and Jowy out of the heroes, but then again there are characters such as Barbarossa, Teo McDohl, Luca Blight, Han and Genkaku, Odessa, Troy, Leknaat, Gedoe and many others that simply command. The whole character thing would be a VERY tough call to make so I'm not even going to try and attempt it.

Wasn't Lorelai or Simone, but i had forgotten about Viki (although i does suck when she screws up) and Tangaar.

Tengaar is roughly the same magic wise as Rina so they're both very good to use at this point, and Viki screws up less often then most at higher levels due to her incredible luck rating. She is actually one of the best mages in the game, although I still stick with Luc and Mazus in the end.

He didn't "assume" Shu was coward... he just taught him not to ever put himself in direct line of danger. Tactics 101

Meaning that he was playing it by the book. Shu didn't, and he won. Even if you say that they did a horrible translation, Shu DID win the battle that mattered most. Maybe Leon WAS the best, but, Shu beat him on the decisive battle. That makes him the best for sure. Atleast, in my opinion. i really DO get annoyed at how much people get angry at the Americans for saying that they 'mistranslated' something...but, that's for a whole different topic...Maybe Leon just got old in his age...cause he looked kinda old...Of course, I don't remember Shu's age, and, I don't want to check his profile with Richmond right now...

The only weak part about the Luca battle was at the time you fight him (alittle after the first half of the game) you don't really have too many characters(I think only Luc have any level 4 rune powers) and if you would fight him at the characters at the end he wouldn't have really done any damage or be that difficult. He was probally one of the most annoying fights in the game.

Um...I would have to say that I had MANY chars by the Luca fight. I wasn't missing that many of the SOD...Maybe twenty...im not sure exactly. I'm not so sure about Luca doing 'no damage' he was ONE buffed boss...I was about level 40 sumthin, or maybe in my early 50's when I fought him, and he still gave my party a good beating. And, armor doesn't really change defense a WHOLE lot...You would've probably been able to do more damage with weapon upgrading, but, we'll really never know, well, unless you use a gameshark, of course...Umm....my 'team'Glenn (hero)Joey ((Im guessing this is what the japanese meant)Yes, I used a gameshark))AydaWakaba (My fav ;) !)Nanami/Eilie (You lose Nanami, so I used Eilie at the end)Sierra (Second favorite XD ) Of course, I really haven't experimented much, I just wanted to beat the game, so I could see the ending with Joey and Nanami...

Gameshark... in suikoden. I really don't need gameshark to finish this. However I did it though. he he he.

it's the ONLY suikoden I used one for...course it's the only system i have a gameshark for...Using the 'buddy atk' on the last boss really helped. Oh, and once i destroyed the rune...Let's just say the black sword rune hurts alot....Though, the main reason I used it was so I could get Mukumuku who I had missed because I never thought to just go up to that STUPID tree ;) XD and hit "X" three times on it... XD I also never went without a full party, willingly. I liked using all those people, how was I to know that I needed to have an open slot at that stupid checkpoint XD Well, enough getting angry. I guess Suikoden just has to have those characters that you just gotta get lucky for. Probably because they don't want you to see the best ending on your first try :whistle2: I admit, I've used a faq for every Suikoden I've played to ensure me the 108 stars, so I could get a good ending. Though, I never beat suikoden III. I saw the ending. Because my brother beat it.

I had a few characters that only took 1 damage when attacked by Luca. Humphrey was one of those tanks.

Well in that battle Shu chose a superior tactic although the only reason he won that battle is because Viktor actually saved his life. In reality he was going to burn in that forest whilst Leon would have lived to fight another day. Shu would have given the Dunan army a quick advantage, but without him as a strategist and Leon still alive I think that the Highland forces would have made a come back. That tactic was genious though on Shu's part and no one can take it away from him although I still feel that Leon is a superior strategist.

i really DO get annoyed at how much people get angry at the Americans for saying that they 'mistranslated' something...but, that's for a whole different topic...

No insult towards Americans meant on my part but the Konami America team butchered Suikoden II with many of the translations. I was just stating facts here.

Maybe Leon just got old in his age...cause he looked kinda old...Of course, I don't remember Shu's age, and, I don't want to check his profile with Richmond right now...

Shu is 26, courtesy of Suikosource, and Leon is 49 at the time, courtesy of Suikox.

Impossible. You can't get certain characters until you defeat Luca Blight. You would have had 82 SOD max (84 if you did the Matilda Glitch Trick and got Humphrey and Futch). As for your levels... you would have more than likely been JUST over level 40. I've replayed that game many times and its hell just getting all 18 of your members to level 40 so I usually end up with most of them at around 38-40 and the hero around 43 or so. Luckily the last time I played I got the level 99 glitch and Anita fought him at level 99.If you fought him at the end of the game he would have been buffed up accordingly.

Does anyone know if there are any english translations of the Suikogaidens or Gensou Suikoden Card Battle Stories? It seems that knowing Japanese is a good thing but, I can't read Kanji so I can't tell.

www.suikosource.com has translations for the Suikogaidens, and there have been no translations of the card game, unfortunately.

Actually there have been several Suikoden Card Battle translations by random individuals; however those were all translated by fans who aren't native speakers (at least the ones I've heard of). Check out suikosource for further information though. I remember specifically of a thread in there, which discussed the translations.Oh… and for those of you that are thinking these are actual translated games, tough luck! The translations are only written files, which you read as you play the Japanese games. The English versions have never been released and there is no sign of an English release in the future so don’t hold your breath.

Well, Suikosource has more general translations so they are not very precise. You know whats going on but not to full extent.

There are patches that are being worked on...but, they're probably dead by now.
