Love it. I own Suikoden 1 and 2 and just purchased 4. Suikoden 3 was never released on PAL though. I've seen Suikoden 2 (PAL) sell on ebay for upwards of $200, no kidding.

I own Suikoden II and is a great game, a lot of chars and a cool battle style. I have to buy Suikoden 1 to see how the story began.

The story is not on Toran Republic, and the hero doesn't have a name, you choose his name when you start the game.

I was wondering if anyone could chuck on the backstory from Suikoden 3 which is in the manual of Suiko 3? I need it for an RPG that I am creating, I wouldn't ask if I still had mine.

I just beat Suikoden 1 and loved it - it's a bit short, though...I'm going to play the second part as soon as I find the time. But I'm wondering: What influence does the save state from the first game have on the story (or features/whatever) of the second one... ?because you can load when you start a new game in Suikoden 2...

The Suikoden series is probably the best RPG games in my opinion. I have played all 4 games and I think Suikoden 1 and 2 are the best. Suikoden 3 just wasn't that good, the good thing about it was the skill system and the sidequest. Suikoden 4 was short, and really easy. Not meaning to brag but, it felt really easy. I leveled up really quickly and the game just flew by.

@ Shadow Knight: Yes you get to name the characters in games, but they have names based on the Japanese comics. The hero of Suikoden I is Tir McDohl and the hero of Suikoden II is Riou Genkaku.@ Voyd: Short is very arguable as the game can take you a very long amount of time depending on the amount of secrets and side quests you're looking into. In my personal opinion, Suikoden has more to offer replay value wise than just about any other game, especially with 108 stars + secret characters and all those unites.@ Untouchable: The Land and Its Past"Grassland - a region of vast plains and sparse woods, where gales blow strong and nature thrives. The Six Clans, spread across Grassland, symbolize the wilderness that they inhabit. To the east lies the mighty Holy Kingdom of Harmonia, and to the south the Republic of Tinto.Situated to the west beside the sea is the Zexen Federation, a mercantile nation prospering remarkably from recent increases in continental trade.Military aggression by larger nations towards Grassland has been turned back narrowly time after time.Confrontation between the Six Clans and the Zexens has especially deep roots. Grassland continues to hang in a dangerous balance between war and peace."@ mrcn: Loading the Suikoden I data enables you to do a number of things. First and foremost, all the characters that you levelled up to say level 60 in Suikoden I that return in suikoden II such as Flik, Viktor, Futch, Humphrey, Luc, and Pesmerga for example, come back a little stronger then they normally would. Furthermore the one at the highest level will get a +5 level boost. If you manage to boost anyone to level 99 they'll get an extra +5 level boost. If two or more people reach level 99 or share the highest level, only one will get the +5 level bonus and that is random. If you get everyone to level 99, they'll all get a +5 level bonus, with the exception of a single person who will get a +10 level bonus. If that weren't enough their weapons will also be a higher level depending on what they were in Suikoden I. You can also transfer certain runes and items, such as Humphrey will carry over the Windspun Armor if he has it equipped instead of a Knights Armor (and this is unequipable in II so it's a good investment) and Tir McDohl will carry over a "Master Garb" if you equip it as well as "Earth Boots". This is just from memory, but I think these are about the most important items. Characters like Flik cannot carry over runes since they already start with one in Suikoden II, but Luc and Viktor should be able to carry some over. Any higher level elemental rune will be downgraded to a lower elemental rune, but it's still worth it equipping a few on Luc. As for Viktor, go with a Killer Rune. Double Beat is supposed to transfer, but unfortunately it usually does not for some reason. There are a few others that can pass over, but I cannot exactly remember which. The names of your castle, army and original hero will remain the same, so instead of saying Toran castle and Toran army, they'll refer to them by the names you chose in Suikoden I.Finally... the best part of the transfer is the ability to get Tir McDohl back in your party (with the Souleater too >.<)!!! To do this though you must bring back Gremio, which means gathering all 108 stars in Suikoden I. In addition you cannot lose a single character in the battles to come. Save at the last save point just before the final boss and that's the data Suikoden II will use to run the game. You don't even need to finish Suikoden I, but I'm sure you're all going to anyway. If those things aren't that important to you then there's no need to load the Suikoden I data.@ ghjk: I agree with you about Suikoden being the best RPG series and I would probably take it further and staple it the best game series of all times. It's definitely up there with FF, Zelda, Metroid, Sonic and Mario. I personally love Suikoden II to bits, with I being my second favourite, but unlike you, I also like Suikoden III quite a bit. Even though it lost it's 2D charm, the game itself is actually rather fun, even though it's predecessors are better in my personal opinion. Suikoden IV however does seem like a swing and a miss on Konami's part. Suikoden Tactics should be interesting simply because of the change of pace for a Suikoden game (although I doubt it'll be anywhere near as good as Final Fantasy Tactics), but the one I'm truly looking forward to is Suikoden V. If you haven't heard already, news of it's arrival have already been announced and if you want an insight go to suikox and read up on the details. You can also grab a copy of the 10 minute video of the Japanese trailer, which includes the introduction as well as parts of the storyline. For those of you that were disappointed with Suikoden IV, you may find some comfort in knowing that the six team parties are back and the game will be located in Falena. My educated guess is that this game will take place about 10-20 years BEFORE Suikoden I, but don't quote me on that as that's only a guess based on Georg Prime's appearance in the video clip and his current age. Thus far we know that Georg Prime will return and it is also suspected that Viki and Killey will make a cameo too. Check it out for yourselves.

I should have played Suikoden I first, a lot of things better if you load your first game in SUikoden II. I don't know the complete story neither. But anyway, I'll play it when I clear Suikoden II.

@ mobilerx789: Thus far there have been no signs of Georg obtaining a True Rune. In Suikoden V he looks around 20-30 whereas in Suikoden II he is 41, which leads me to conclude one of two things (don't take either as a fact, but rather my weird brain trying to figure some form of a logical timeframe for Suikoden V): the first is rather obvious and would mean that Suikoden V happened about 10-20 years before the Gate Rune Wars (Suikoden I) OR the more unlikely scenario, which would be that Georg actually has or gains a true rune of this time, in which case Suikoden IV could be years into the past.@ Shadow Knight: Loading Suikoden I data before a Suikoden II game DEFINATELY pays! For me, that was one of the biggest factors in cementing Suikoden II as my all time favorite game. The Suikoden II to Suikoden III transition however is rather crap, for lack of a better word. You get a couple of extra scripts for a few plays. Suikoden IV cannot load from anything, but the Suikoden IV data will apparently be used for Suikoden Rhapsodia (Tactics).

Rhapsodia is set a few years before the events of Suikoden 4 and concerns a groups attempts to uncover the mystery behind the Rune Cannons. There are no 108 stars of Destiny but there are around 50 recruitable characters.

Are you sure Rhapsodia is BEFORE Suikoden IV??? I know that you can load Suikoden IV data for Rhapsodia so I assumed it would be a few years AFTER the events. Oh and the story line is apparently based about the aforementioned group looking for a way to permanently destroy rune cannons... and it seems they succeed, since no one in Suiko I, II and III ever mentions them.It is like FFT in that is a strategy RPG, but I'm not sure if it'll have a job system and such. It'll probably be more Suikoden centered with one weapon per character and runes for magic and such. I'm quite curious as to how they'll do the unites though. Oh… actually… think Suikoden II mini-battles. I’m guessing it would be something along those lines.

Yes, I'm sure that its set 3 years before Suikoden 4 although I'm not sure what can be done with the Suikoden 4 Data. The first scene of the game actually shows Snowe and Hero 4 training.
