umm... since the topic creator said it was a SNES game, why the HELL did you put it in "other handhelds" forum? moved.try not to do something as stupid as this ever again.SMRPG IMO is the best mario rpg out there, way better than super saga or them paper mario games.

It's a really good RPG. Good story and lots of different characters to choose from and the battles aren't as boring as in some other games.

I think they did ok with trying to make an RPG game out of Mario. It's kindof like, "Final Fantasy" but with Super Mario Bros. characters.

I remember this game, this was my favorite game of all time for the super nintendo. Must have been the one that I played more than anything else. Did anyone else ever play this game as well..?

I played this game, though to me, it didn't really get my attention much since I'm not really the type to love turn based RPGs...

of course they reminded you of power rangers, they were based on the power rangers, hell i think that at one point they actually have a big giant robot that they fight in

one of the best games out for the snes, i still play it to this day. the best villian was the Axem rangers, no they never used a giant robot. the best ally was geno, its a shame that nintendo abandoned him and mallow

i am sick of carry on's smrpg bashing. honestly, i thought it was a very fun, humourous, and challenging rpg.and you never mention why you hate it.

Well then, allow me to elaborate.First of all, it was too simplistic and easy. I remember thinking "Wait, that's it!?" when I beat Smithy. And the max level was only 30; you never needed to get particularly strong.Second, the graphics. You couldn't tell the depth of object placement, so for example climbing the beanstalks up to Nimbus Land was annoying as hell.Generally, anything outside of the linearity annoyed me. All of the passwords, barrel rolls, ramming a door, all the puzzles, tasks and tidbits annoyed me when they should have kept me entertained by the variety. Most importantly, it doesn't feel like an RPG or a Mario game. And the dialogue was cheesy, not funny or clever. Pretty much the same problem I had with Megaman Battle Network. The overall feel didn't appeal to me, though it technically had some good qualities. For the record, I greatly enjoy both Paper Mario games.

Carry On, i dont know what you are smoking but super mario rpg is like the top 5 snes rpgs after chrono trigger, seiken densetsu 3 and ff6

That's funny because I didn't like Chrono Trigger at all, but that's another story entirely.

to carry on:i disagree, i thought it was the hardest out of all the mario rpg games. i've gotten the game over screen many times. the game was also innovative, with the battle system that allowed for special attacks/defense by pressing the button at the right time.you seem content to bash the more popular snes rpgs. why you "didnt like chrono trigger at all" is a mystery to me, and i'm sure to many others, but i would not like to find out.

ya, i really liked the game too, great considering the time it came out. and the battle system was ok to me, not too special. definately one of the older snes games that people still play.

Sure, the active battles were innovative and designed to help keep your interest in random encounters. But the tedious music annoyed me so much I didn't want to focus on the game more than necessary. Really, the music was perhaps the worst part about the game, since it is one of the most important factors of mood and feel of a game.I'm not "content to bash" games based on their popularity. I honestly have formed my own opinions from experiences unaffected by the views of others, and that's how I've come to dislike Golden Sun, Super Mario RPG, Tales of Phantasia, Chrono Trigger, Megaman Battle Network, and such. The reason I might seem vocal about it is that people don't generally make topics about lesser known games, and if I did, noone would know what game I was talking about.
