Cheating is, in essence, a tool with an infinite number of purposes. To say that it is solely a means by which gameplay is made easier is a completely misled point of view.

Consider that there are codes that definitely heighten the difficulty of the game in question: codes with effects like, for instance, "enemies deal double damage" or "Player 1: disable xp gain." Even within the realm of codes that ease certain aspects of gameplay, there are often those that only provide simple conveniences or purely cosmetic alterations that do not necessarily make progressing through the game any easier, for instance: "Use items indoors" or "Player 1: Sword is invisible."

I only cheat when i have to. And even then, it's very rare and with very old games like gen II Pokemon (the best ones) and to enhance newer games through mods like with Saints Row 3. However, I prefer to use cheats in Castlevania games just to max out luck so that it's easier to get certain things

i never cheated thats because i never needed them but when sometimes when i get stuck i do consult with a walkthrough

That doesn't count as "cheating", though

Well it depened of the game, like a sand box game like minecraft FTB if something is destroy it takes to much material to rebuild so I go in cheat mode; except for that I don't cheat in game, I go on wikia's and other guide to search for what I need.

I only cheat if I have completed the game and I would like to play it again in a different perceptive like having the ability to fly in grand theft auto san Andreas for the pc which I dont think you can do normally and for me that gave me a different angle of gameplay :)

If I feel the game would be tedious through a second-playthrough (Fallout/Elder Scrolls kind of game) I would be inclined to cheat to progress a little quicker. But of course, it depends on the game - I'll be essentially playing Borderlands 2 six to eight times with the different characters and second playthrough and then that's not counting the DLCs.

I hate cheating by using things like gamesharks and full length walkthroughs that give you all the information and shortcuts. I do like when there is a game that allows you to earn a special item or ability that lets you pinpoint things like key items on a world map, but only when it's a part of the original game and you have to go to great lengths to actually get it.

Hmmm, an intriguing question. I think it also depends on what you call cheating. I TRY to beat a game legit first before I cheat, but I also like to read up on, well, not necessarily walkthroughs, but the game mechanics where available. I like playing optimally where I can.

Well, I cheat sometimes when the game just throws a complete roadblock, like in Final Fantasy 8 when Laguna has that minigame fight with a dragon and you can't advance until you pass it but the controls are just too sluggish to accomplish anything except dying. Getting stuck on the main action of a game is fair. Getting blocked by an unskippable minigame is NOT!

That said, I also like making up my own cheats, and have created several. In RPGs I enjoy fiddling with the inventory systems - giving everyone super armor and weapons is less of a cheat than you might think, especially by endgame.

IMO cheating takes away some of the fun of the games, although sometimes there's just an irresistable urge to cheat.

I don't cheat to help me beat a game, but they're fun to play around with.

Like when I used to turn on flying cars and rioting pedestrians in GTA San Andreas :)
