For Video, it would have to be VLC, but for audio, i'd have to say a toss up between Quicktime, the WAV player program thing, and WMP, with Quicktime and the WAV player thing lets you listen to a sound file in reverse, the WAV player can do it at normal speed, but Quicktime can read MP3, it's a fast rewind, but you can still hear satanic messeges in the songs, something really fun to try out sometime.for a little laugh, listen to Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" backwards

VLC for video. Or BS Player. It's kinda a tie between the two. I still use WMP for audio, just because I like the way it minimizes to the system tray while allowing you to control everything.

Usually? Windows Media Player. For particularly troublesome video files, I use Alshow - the Codecs Included Media Player (PS, I still don't understand how the Dutch subbing of an American show ended up with a Korean video codec). When I'm ripping CDs, I'll occasionally listen to the finished product in either Simple MP3 or MusicMatch (depending on what I ripped it in).Though lately, thanks to wireless internet and my laptop, I've actually been listening to a lot more of it on YouTube. Scary, huh?

I use Windows Media Player. Overall very well rounded. Plays videos and music. Just what I need. If theres a codec I don't have, I'll just go download it.

I once heard of a player that pissed all over Winamp for audio quality, but I've since forgotten it. And that was a while ago, so Winamp is probably the best, regardless, it does me fine, and I'm used to it, I'd hate to try switching to something else. :)

I use Media Player Classic for everything, and it's only failed me once. But yeah, I had to download some basic codecs like DivX.

I was using WinAMP a while ago... like 2 years ago. Then I jumped on the Foobar2000 wagon. It was good, but I still liked WinAMP more. Just that Foobar had a lot more stability. Heh. And then I moved back to Windows Media Player, simply for the library function and its syncing ability to my Creative Zen Touch 20GB MP3 Player. I'd probably just stick to Windows Media Player for the time being, until I figure out what my next MP3 Player is going to be. ^.^; Oh, these are all for music anyway. Video game music must definitely be played by WinAMP unless its an OST. And as for movies, I use a combination of Windows Media Player, VLC, and ZoomPlayer. I just have to use the correct codecs, and depending on which one performs faster. VLC isn't always my best choice.

there is a program called Alshow (http://www.altools.net) that essentially acts like all of these, rolled into one packageit plays almost every kind of vid file, and if there's a vid type it doesn't understand, it connects to a codec center to find something that will play itand on the rare instances it can't find a match, you can upload a small snippet of the vid file for analysis so that they can incorporate compatabiliyy in a later version

I use plain ol windows media player because it can play most of the things you want to play like mp3s, movies, etc, without having to download and install new apps on your computer
