I usually beat the game and do what I can and then check out a place to find what I didn't find on my own. I don't usually have the patience to get everything myself. Atleast with Adventure/RPG games I mean.Sometimes I'll go look up secrets, strategies, etc. if I'm bored with the game.CMA

Depends on what I'm playing. When I play games like Paper Mario/Superstar Saga, I like to see how much HP things have. That's about as far as I go, without being hassled by the man.

It's best to play through a game the first time not worrying about getting all the secrets. That way you have replay value, something to go back for. That's why I never use a FAQ the first time I play a game.

I used to do that when I still had my Sega Genesis. I tried to find as many cheats as possible. But because of that, I beat the games too quick, and realized I spent so much money for something I did in two days. Now, I don't use it at all anymore. Even though it's MUCH longer, I find myself enjoying games more and more. Especially GBA and SNES games.

hmm i dnt use cheats like gameshark. i did only once when i experimented with my pokemon sapphire rom (the first version of this game the clock wasnt working so some events were greatly affected.) other games i just play through and on my 2nd try i use guides to see what things/secrets i missed on my first try.

I use codes, but no invincibility or unlocking codes, only money, item stuff like that, except on bosses or games i beat before.

I would really like to know how many people just jump strait to gamefaqs or gamewinners or whatever. When I was young (years ago) I would not really have a place to go for cheats (other than nintendo power, which actually use to be cool), and I was a good at all sorts of games espically RPG's. Now there is so much unlockable crap, that I don't want to miss I find myself refering to these sites before I play, and that is a bunch of bull. So I am starting over, but cold turkey is hard, so I will start with a game I have played many times (until the battery ran out of the cartridge) Shining Force. Please join me, break the habit, toss the needle, be a true gamer.

... That is truly inspiring. It brings new resolve into my heart. I shall stand diligent, and blaze my way through the path of good intentions without guidance.... Although right now I'm stuck in Tales of Phantasia somewhere deep within the Morlia gallery, and am VERY tempted to use a walkthrough to find out how the hell to get in/out. Really, Mint's TP regeneration's not keeping up to the amount of healing I need to do to survive (all gummies were used up. Bleargh.)You're right about the unlockable stuff. I never use FAQs for Fire Emblem, and thus do I miss out on a lot of stuff when I go straight in for the kill. But I believe strategy games... never use FAQs. You have to be hopeless at the game to need someone to play it for you.I hate Shining Force though. I don't know why.

Everyone has cheated in a game. ( either by having a friend beat it for them or just use cheats like gameshark, etc.

Many a time have I looked up a walkthrough only to slap myself on the head for not realising it was so simple. Other times I have read past the hard part and accidently discovered a giant plot twist wich sort of ruins the experience.Others times. however, walkthroughs have helped my happily on my way through a difficult portion of a game so walkthroughs can be a sort of double-edged sword. At the end of the day, its the individual's decision whether or not to accept someone elses help, but its nice to think about those people who spend their time writing such walkthroughs, especically for those really long RPGsAs for cheats, as in cheat codes or passwords, I try not to use those but recently such things can hardly be called 'cheats' anymore as many of them result in some random effect which changes the game in niether a positive nor negative way. These random cheats can be quite a useful thing to sqeeze out a bit more entertainment from a game but I try not to use them until I've beaten said game.

I only cheat for some "experimental fun" after I've already beaten the said game. But if there is a game that is testing the limits of my sanity I will look to gamefaqs for help, and quickly delet the walkthrough before I use more of it than I should.
