Why? Because James Watt, the inventor of the term, worked in a coal mine where ponies lifted coal out of the mine. He reasoned that a pony could 33,000 foot-pounds of work in one minute. Hence, 'horse'power.It wasn't the strongest animal; it just so happens that Mr.Watt did not have access to a Gorilla or an Elephant. How inconvenient. Now shut up.Oh. To give this post a smidge of relevance, I'll go with the Dolphin. They beat sharks up. That's badass.and why the hell in physics we use Horse Power and not Gorrila Power.....
