I think that ESRB ratings should be there but they need to be revised. My parents never had a problem with the games I play and they have always let me play M rated games. Right now the main ratings are E, T (14+) and M(17+). I believe that a tony hawk game was rated T once. Thats crazy. A 12 year old couldn't play it? I think it should be revised so you have E, (10+), (14+), (17+) It might be more accurate. I dont think many parents pay attention to the ratings though.

The ESRB is not much of a problem, just like them ovie rating systems. As long as you're not a hard-skulled nit with an I.Q. of 10, playing M rated games when you're 15 shouldn't be much of a problem.

I think Kage has the right idea. They need to split the Teen rating up into two parts. Some games are rated teen because of some minorly objectionable content that most people wouldn't even notice, or because they're "scary."

I do but maybe they should be changed a little or have more specific ratings. lol speaking of which, is the Mature rating for 17+ or 18+? I went to movie gallery today and tried getting Chaos Theory. She wouldn't let me. (No offense, but she was old and all the younger salesdudes let me get M games) There could be something like where they have parental locks on games where the games offensive content would be blocked until an adult went to the salesclerk for the password. It could be set so that if ur a teen buying a mature game, they give you a pw that unlocks some offensive content up to the T level. Just an idea.

That would be rather stupid. Since most M rated games are very deserving of that ranking, and it would basically say "You cannot play this game without a password." And it's 17+, AO is 18+.

Alot of games should have been illegalized in favor of less violent ones but it always ticks me off when I see an unfair ratinglike for substitutes:GTA - not really much like it but just play games like NFSU (car aspect) & tribes (shooting aspect)DOOM, brothers in arms, CS, AVP, manhunt, hitman, dead to rights, thief, XIII, max payne, etc - Tribes (yes tribes 2 makes the world go round) & Star Wars BattlefrontHalo - played a little but I still wish its gore was only worthy of a T like tribesFar Cry - kind of hard to substitute since it is so colorful but nonetheless violenthalf life - never played it but sounds fun but goryunreal - unforgetable series sadly the gore is therequake - never played but it sounds like tribes and I will play it when I do turn 17pariah - IDK never played it but I have a demo disk with it might test it souded gooddiablo - played it a little very fun but sadly an M game kind of hard to replace without resorting to text based rpgs (ADOM)Deus Ex - never played it but I must eventually sounds fun save for the goreFallout - played a little bit but I doubt i got to any parts that merited it an M so I'd say albion is the T alternativeMortal Kombat - Tekken or Virtua Fighter

good thing in the country i live in salespeople don't look at what you'll buy, but on how many you will buy. and kids here as young as six play counter-strike on net cafes, being watched by their moms. it's stupid if they put ratings and stores don't discriminate buyers from purchasing items that wouldn't fit those who will use it. heh, good thing i'm nearly 20, so even if i live in the united states i'll still be able to buy them. The rating-system makes perfect sense, there are idiots out there that take that shyte for real and go nuts on it, shooting down their teachers or stealing cars. Yeah I know some might say the criminal personality has already been there before. Think twice about it. But on the other hand, the rating-system makes no sense for pirates :)

I think it is a good idea, this way parents have some knowledge on what the games contain and can help make better decisions.

If people were smart they could tell what kind of content the game had by just looking at the cover and the back. But unfortunatly there are quite a few not so smart people. So a rating system is just a nice way to keep everyone happy (well except the kids xP ). So I guess they're a good thing. Movies have em too.

ESRB ratings - Yes.Censorship - No.We have the ratings for a reason, not so games that get imported can be edited to be more suitable for younger groups. If, for instance, Megaman Zero has it's blood spray, then it's not made for kids who shouldn't be seeing that blood spray.Comprende?

There shouldnt be ESBR rating, bcuz ESBR rating for a violent game is 18 but people who are 18, dont like that violent game while the people under 18, loves violet games, so the ESBR rating is just not cool

I think the ESRB is needed, it helps to prevent kids that shouldn't be playing certain games from playing those games. I sure as hell wouldn't want my nephew playing Leisure Suit Larry - Magna Cum Laude or GTA:SA. They're good games, but they're not for kids that young. If you're 16 and your parents think that you can handle one of these games, then they can rent it for you.For all you minors that think ESRB should be taken out: Just because you want something, doesn't make it right. You people need to get your heads out of your asses and think about the world around you. Sure, you may be mature enough to play some of these games, but a lot of kids aren't and it's for those kids that the ESRB is there. Your readiness to play doesn't supercede the effects these games can have on an undeveloped mind. The world doesn't revolve around you and if you have to wait until you're 17 to play GTA, so be it.

Yes I agree with earlier statements of ESRB yes Censorship no because many are starting to not know the difference aslong as little timmy can't get the gory game with foul language. I do agree the ESRB system actually helps me out I just look for the M's instead of other ways of narrowing down my search for any game, and at the same time it helps keep parents aware of what not to buy or atleast what they should take caution in purchasing. But then also they begin to completely try to ban a game, this same rule applies basically to the Surgeons General Warning on cigarettes you know its content and what it will do but you still buy it anyway completely aware of what could happen. And besides whatever happened to talking to your kids and explaining to them what is going on I mean thats what my mom did, I was young when I was playing Mortal Kombat parents need to take responsibility and just talk some sense into there kids.

ESRB ratings are helpful to parents. Jack Thompson and the like are factually wrong on so many points that it's quite simple to discredit them. I myself introduced Jack Thompson's articles to my parents, alongside commentary showing what a moron he was and how no-one should listen to a thing he says. If you can't convince your parents to let you buy the games you want despite their ESRB ratings, you suck at convincing.

I never had a problem with the ESRB Ratings (most of my games are rated "T", I think its a mature version of "E"), until the whole San Andreas Hot Coffee thing. I just went to the store, sometimes by myself or with a few friends, looked around for a game I wanted, and bought it regardless of rating and the cashier didn't say or do anything. It basically went like this:Before San Andreas:Cashier: "That'll be $50."I pay em.Cashier: "OK. Enjoy your intense violence with obscene language and partial nudity game."After San Andreas:Cashier: "Sorry kid, but I need some ID or you gotta bring your parents."
