These characters dont differ that much. As mentioned before they only differ in speed and power. I like the looks of Marth better because he has a full black outfit. But Roy because i like the way he plays better. So i usually follow my Gamers instinct 
and choose Roy.

are u serious? marths way better...yea roy has fire n all that, but marth is QUICKER...n he can attack from a distance because the tip of his blade does most damage

Marth because he is faster, hits stronger when hit at the right place of the sword, charge up attack takes less time then roys and baisically has the same effect.

I like them both equally, but I prefer fighting with Marth ~ mostly because he's faster.

point A. marth is faster and does more damage with the tip of his sword. point B. roy is stronger and does more damage wiht the center of his sword.point C. THEY ARE BOTH STRONG IN ONE WAY WEAK IN ANOTHER MEANING (for those of you who are slow(no offence)) THEY ARE THE SAME END OF STORY!!!

Marth's sword is better for edgeguarding, his aerials are soooo much better, have less lag, do much more damage than Roy's, and actually have some knockback. Marth's down-a aerial is also much better because it's a spike instead of a meteor smash, doesn't have an absolutely ridiculous sweetspot, and goes great with the classic Ken combo.Marth is far superior, though Roy is more fun to play. I use Marth. Roy is just too slow, in my opinion. Also, it's so much more satisfying to smack your opponent with a well placed up+B when you're playing as Marth. x3

well.... to me, theyre both exactly the same except for clothing and hair colour.... in ssbm, i dont rly debate over which character is best, i just use random and use watever i can get....

Definitely gotta be roy, a lot more powerful. plus he looks more like a hero that marth does.

Marth > Roy. Since Roy requires you to hit the opponent w/ the center of the blade to do full damage, you normally won't ever get to do the full damage since Roy is a little slower, allowing the opponent to block or to roll out. Since Marth does not need to fite in such a close range, its easier to pull off his Meteor Smash attack, making him stronger than Roy usually.
