I prefer Roy over marth, jsut because I haven't ever played as marth in any game other than ssbm. FE6 rocks

Roy is good cause he can do spikes... like everything spikes.. even his counter attacks, but I think Marth is better cause he has a lot of speed, and roy is way too slow ._.

roy is better in Smash Bros Melee, but marth is cooler in the fire emblem games

Roy is slower/heavier but stronger, while Marth is faster/lighter but slightly weaker. Also, Roy's counter adds 50% damage and recoil for the receiver, and he can control his Up B move (forgot what that's called, sorry). I used to use Roy, as a beginner, but now I use Marth because I'm better. I think Marth is better because his speed advantage is a lot more than Roy's power advantage.

Roy has nothing that spikes. Only Marth has a spike, and that is his D-air. Roy's D-air has a meteor smash instead, but you have to be suicidal to try and kill someone with that thing.Note: Do not confuse a spike with a meteor smash. Meteor smashes can be meteor cancelled, and therefore be recovered from, whereas spikes cannot.Roy is good cause he can do spikes... like everything spikes.. even his counter attacks, but I think Marth is better cause he has a lot of speed, and roy is way too slow ._.

Marth is far superior, though Roy is more fun to play. Marth's sword is better for edgeguarding, his aerials are soooo much better, have less lag, do much more damage than Roy's, and actually have some knockback. Marth's down-a aerial is also much better because it's a spike instead of a meteor smash, doesn't have an absolutely ridiculous sweetspot, and goes great with the classic Ken combo.

Dude are you freaking kidding me? What in 9 hells makes you think that Roy is any slower than Marth?? The only speed difference for anything between them is that Marth floats down slower than Roy, and thats the way I like it. I can use Roy to get some nasty speed attacks, and dash away before they have a chance to do anything. My Down+A attack works just fine fore me, and Roy actually runs faster than Marth. I would know, me and my brother get pretty bored.

. and about the whole tip of the sword experiment thing that both roy and marth having 12% or w/e if you actually hit peach with marth with the tip (sweet spot) wouldn't he do more damage? than if roy would hit with the tip (cuz thats not his sweet spot) im too lazy to check but im pretty sure marth does more damage than roy when hitting in the tip of the sword.

I liked Marth more, even though Roy has the nice fire bonus to his attacks, I was just better with Marth it seemed. =)

I assure you, the fact that Roy falls faster is not the only speed difference between Marth and Roy. There is a good reason why Roy is far lower on the tier list than Marth. The fact that Roy really only has one decent killing move (over smash) and Marth has countless greatly disturbs me, especially since Marth's over smash is better anyways. I always use Roy because his charge attack lasts longer which i like because i like to hold it down but they each have their own strengths. Roys attacks are better if the opponent is next to him, while marths attacks are better at the tip of his blade. also marths triple jump is faster but roys cause more damage

It's also shorter, and their triple jump is only to be used in emergencies anyways, since it has such high lag. >.>Anyways, in terms of competitive use, Marth is a much better character. He has longer jumps, a longer wavedash, better aerial attacks, a better sweet spot, and the list goes on. Sure, Roy has a hell of a lot more strength, but it's not worth it if he's not fast enough to actually hit. Oh, and Roy does have a spike. It's one of his Double-Edge Dance combos. I think it's the third over attack.

Meteor smash, not a spike. Also, Marth has a meteor smash on the third attack of his side-B combo as well, except his is done by doing the down slash.Oh, and Roy does have a spike. It's one of his Double-Edge Dance combos. I think it's the third over attack.

Roy dude, Roy's the upper class to Marth, his flame techniques in SSBM are the best, I always win with Roy, especially in "Hard"

in my huge reply i did say that roy had a spike, more than one actually. and its in one of the flames of his smash up-A and yea maybe the right-B combo and somewhere else i think but i forgot >_< but they are almost useless becuz they are meteor and that are extremely hard to pull off and be of any use.

well Marth is faster and is stronger at range (tip of sword), but Roy is so much cooler and has that explosion at the end of the B charge. I never use Marth I guess I don't like his speed or something. It'd be Roy for me.
