Right now THQ is on the top of my list. They've been making awesome games these past few years and haven't sold their soul to EA as of yet.

While it's rare for Bioware, Valve, or Blizzard to go wrong - they seem to have bottled genius and distributed it around their offices - I really like it when individual programmers, or small teams, make brilliant freeware games like NetHack. For one thing, these games usually take more risks than commercial games, and concentrate more on gameplay than graphics. For another thing, they're FREE.
