Tales of Eternia is my favorite, with Valkyrie Profile and then Crisis Core following behind. Don't get me wrong, I like turn based RPGs too, but they need to have an extremely good, strategy-focused system to beat out something with an action component.

I'm trying to figure this out since I've played just about every RPG there is on the PSP (minus that god awful legend of heroes series... bleh). The one already at the top is final fantasy crisis core for just about what everyone had said about the game. Think about it. The gameplay is touch and go RPG but it works (Because the level system might seem random but it's not as long as you keep fighting baddies). The character dubbing is awesome as well as the character development of everyone's favorite FF7 characters (And other new characters). The cut scene is as superb as squarenix spared no expense to them and the game has a lot of them. The story is comprehensible till the ending where it connects to the start of FF7. There are no flaws whatsover in this game and as sakuraba had said, everyone can play this and not just hardcore FF7 fanboys...... unlike that FF7 spin off of vincent: durge of cerberus.

There is no doubt the best RPG game in PSP is FF: Crisis Core. All the best from the FF saga in a handheld game =D

Yeah I go for Crisis Core, or Monster Hunter? If you'd call Monster Hunter a RPG.

To be perfectly honest, no PSP RPG game has managed to hold my attention for more than a couple days. This means I am either getting over video games or PSP RPG games don't offer as much as similar games on other consoles. And RPGs are my favorite game genre.Of the PSP RPGs that have held my attention the longest:Crisis CoreMonster Hunter (but only when playing in a group)Kingdom of ParadiseDungeon ExplorerAlien Syndrome (part RPG, but all fun)

For a good pure RPG game, I believe that Star Ocean First Departure and Second Evolution are great for the PSP. Though they are remakes of games from long ago, the battle system was really ahead of its time, still being something enjoyable now.

Would Monster Hunter count? I mean, while it's classified as an Action RPG, people might debate that...If not, the upcoming Persona remake (with a completely revamped localization) could be one of the best.I'd also vote for Brave Story for 2nd or 3rd. Just for its familiar turn-based system with a rather fun and engaging Unity system.

My personal favs are Star Ocean: Second Evolution, Valkyrie Profile, Crisis Core, Brave Story, Sid Meier's Pirates (it counts right?), Final Fantasy Tactics, and Jeanne D'arc.

There are tons of RPG games on PSP (people say them above, so I'll skip the list), but even if none of them appeal to you, you could always try getting regular old PSone games on there. I have Final Fantasy IX and VIII on my PSP and I'm happy with it. They're my favourite. And then there are the PSP ported RPGs that you can get like Disgaea and Valkyrie Profile.
