I will post one tip a day in here to help beginners. Those can post suggestions here and other are allowed to post tips here too. So here I go:Table of contentsBG enhancement:Page 1:ColoringPage 1:DeepnessPage 1:ContrastPage 6:Border shadingPage 7:Stain coloringRender enhancement:Page 1:RenderingPage 1:FeatheringPage 4:Lighting blendAddings:Page 2:LinesPage 3: Pixel StretchPage 5: Scan linesPage 6: 2pix borderText:Page 2:Simple textPage 3: Flashy textPage 3:Broken textOthers:Page 5: Basic phtomanipPage 5: Making tech brushesPage 7: PlanetPage 8: Counter-BrushingTip of the day (July's 11th 2005):COLORINGLets say you have a black and white sig like that one:Posted Imageand you want to color it.One way for that is using color balance. Here how you do it:Posted Image(my ps7 is in french but I guess you can tell where it is right?Select color balance and look around:Posted ImageYou can move those pointers to change the color of your sig. Notice the 3 circles on the bottom? These are for dark colors, medium colors and light colors in that order, be sure to always play with the 3 of them for each layers. Now for those 3 options select similar colors on 1 layer. Make a minimum of 3 color balance layers of different colors (they must not be variations of the same color or else it won't do much) (I used yellow blue and green)Then select each color balance layers and use filter/render/clouds so it looks like that:Posted ImageNow what I usually do is that I add one more color balance layer of a color that nullifies a bit my main color, (if it was red use blue and so on) On my example my sig was mainly blue so I used a red color balance without clouding it.This is what my bg became:Posted ImageHope this helps beginners

Yeah, its supposed to be in General. But why would you put colours to nullify your main colorus? What I usually do is put many different shade's of the colour in, or if I put blue I'll put cyan.. something that fits the colour scheme. But ah well.

What it does is that instead of being overally blue, the dark spots are black, which makes the colors like clouds of light or something and I like that. Tip of the day (July's 12th 2005):Adding DeepnessOK lets say you have a brushed sig with color with many details (doesn't work with a too plain bg (I will use my last example):Posted ImageOk now what you must do is use level. Go to layer/new adjustment layer/levels and look around:Posted ImageThe first black pointer affects the dark colors. Move it right to make them darker. The second grey pointer affacts the mid color. Move it right to make them darker or left to make them lighter. The third white pointer affects the lighter colors. Move it left to make them lighter. The pointers on the bottom affects all colors, its a bit like lighting but not really. I never use those. The number boxes above the graph are like the coordinates of your pointers, type a number in those boxes to move the pointers to an exact location. Now play with it depending on what you want your sig to look like. I used those settings: 50-1-220.Now you should have something like that:Posted ImageDon't see much difference? Well ppl will notice you bg more this way but its not finished yet.Go to layer/new adjustment layer/courb or whatever is written on the second spot.Posted ImageNow this isn't much but you can change your colors here too. To do so just drag the line of the graph. Just never twist the graph too much here and you will be alright. If you were happy with your result with the levels only do not use it though.See the difference? It gives a better result if you use more than one layer of brushing.Posted ImagePosted ImageHope you guys liked it. More to come tomorrow.

This time its kinda short. ContrastAdding contrast give a nice touch to a sig. For that go to layer/new adjustment layer/ light and contrast Then you can play with the contrast and luminosity pointers but you should NEVER lower the contrast or it will make your sig plain. My suggestion is to higher the contrast and lower the luminosity, this way the colors will stand out but they won't hurt the eye.

Thanks you ;) (its in french)RENDERINGOkay now lets say you want to put a render in this.First you need to find your pic. Lets say I take this one: Posted ImageIn this case I would choose a color that stands out from the red and black like blue or green and I would make a layer filled with this color behind the actual pic. Then I would remove the biggest useless parts of the image with the polygon lasso or even the rectangular one. Then I would take the poligon lasso and zoom in the edges to select everything around that I don't need and delete it until the image is rendered. In the end always review your image with different zooms to be sure that you didn't miss any nasty dots. If you want you can always go to gamerenders and search for good ones or ask someone else to render your images but doing it yourself usually takes less time.

Heeeere comes the good stuff!!!Blending render... and stuff like that you know...Lets say you have a nice bg like this one: (made only with the techniques stated above)Posted Imageand you want to blend in a cool render. Lets take this one: Posted ImageNow since I took it from gamerenders I don't need to render it. 1.Just slide the rendered pic in your opened sig and place it where you want it to be.2.You can transform the image in edition/transformation but be carefull. You should always avoid making your renders bigger than they were at the beginning or they will lose quality. If it is too small when you take it don't use it. Also always hold shift and resize the render from the edge, this keeps proportions.Btw if you make your render too small it won't really look good so keep them at a good size.Ok now you got your render in place!Posted ImageHere comes the sweet stuff!3. Now you have 2 options you can either put your render under the color balance or duplicate your render, set one of them to luminosity and the one under it to that layer type on the screenshot. (its hardlight thanks monkey  ) (If you choose to do this you should featherblend (step 4) before doing it.)Posted Imageresult with layer type: Posted Imageresult under color balance: Posted ImageMy advice would be to use the one more adapted to the render and that you like the most. But its not over yet!4. Now take the polygon lasso and select your render (be sure to let some space between your line and the render)Posted ImageNow with still the polygon lasso on hand right click on your selection and select reverse selection. Then right click on it again and select feather, then make it to 20 pixels.now just click on edit/clear until you are satisfied. (with the render layer selected)5. After that if you chose to put the render layer under the color blance ones you can try and switch the layer type to luminosity. Here is my final result: Posted ImageTo complete it you can add brushing layer over the render. If you have any questions don't be shy ask here.

Oh and BTW the best way to save a file is to save it on a .png format. It keeps the best possible resolution. For the text be patient, my next tut is about lines and the many others after that will be how to make different kind of text.
