Start with Gold or Silver. They're pretty much red and blue, sans the glitches (which made the old games really fun), plus a few updated features the current games had, and 251 pokemon.Once you get the hand of that, move onto the GBA games. Emerald is my personal favorite. Little FYI, get yourself Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Red as starters. not fire-red, just red. There's a little glitch in Red that allows you to catch mew in Cerulean city WAY early on at level 7. Catch it, then play gold until you get the time travel trader machines to work. After that, trade yourself a Mew onto gold, and get ready to kick some major donkey.

Gold ish fun, and being able to walk pretty quick even without a bike or running boots is a pro. However, Silver > Gold, cuz you don't need to trade a Lugia over to get Aeroblast :rofl2:

Personally...I'd say EmeraldEdit:Kamina - I can say the same for Ho-oh with sacred fire.

You should start with Crystal. It is more elaborated than previous versions (red, blue, yellow, gold, silver) but not as complicated as the following (ruby, sapphire, emerald, lg, fr). I think it is the best game for starting to play pokemon.

It's best to start out with the origionals, and then work your way up to the newest. Makes learning the Pokemon and basics of the games a WHOLE lot easier.

I think any of them you could start with, but I would say one of the first so you can see how much better the games get.

Follow the history of Pokemon. Play them by the order of release, because I think they get more complicated as they go, with the introduction of new pokemon and everything. How many pokemon do they have right now anyways?

I would recommend going like this: first Pokemon Red or Yellow, then Crystal, and then Ruby or Sapphire. That's just my suggestion.

I fonud Yellow very hard, because you're forced to pick Pikachu, and he stinks at the first gym battle (if I remember right)I wouuld go for one of the newer games like Fire Red, or Leaf Green.

I have to say Pokemon Yellow version would be the best pokemon game to start with. But if you can't find it then start with Fire Emblem.
