Definitely Red or Blue is great to start off with. That was before the game got a little more complex and integrated a bunch of different features (trainer calling, berries, breeding, etc). As well, it's good to see the original set of pokemon that made the franchise expand.

Blue & redYellowGold & SilverCrystalRuby & SaphEmeraldseriously just follow order

just because they were relased that way doesnt mean its best to play it that way...Red and Blue lacked badly on the story, saying that Mewtwo was BORN from mew...not cloned...i think red and blue are only good for gameplay, no stories...(info obtained from the burned house in Cinnabar Island, read the books and battle burglars) plus this is someone looking for something for thir kids...be nice

Any of the pokemon series. Their kid friendly, and it will take them at least a couple of hours to finish.

Start from the beginnning, let the kids follow the way Ash caught pokemon in the series, its also like a building block for learning the structure of the games.

Id say Fire Red, or Leaf green, cause its basically like the first ones, then crystal, gold silver, and finally, uby sapphire or emerald.

For children, Fire Red / Leaf Green are probably the best, they have much more in-game help than any of the others. I even think you can assign a button to 'help' :shiftyninja:

Uh...I would say Emerald. It's really quite easy. And you'll be interested with all the legendaries that you can obtain.
