I'd say start em out on Blue. Mostly just because that's what I started with. My sister got Red. I got Yellow... adn inhereted her Red. I got Silver, then Gold and Crystal (probubly my favorite out of all of them) and Ruby 'n Saffire if they still want to play it. I don't care for the RS&E. The Pokemon...just seem pointless sometimes. Old schooler, this one.:P I'm starting mine out (a few years from now yet!) on SuperNintendo. Supermario baby! And Yoshi's Island. They won't see 3D gaming for a good couple years after they're fimly set into good gaming.

I would normally say Red, Blue or Yellow. The reason why is because once you move back into the past of the Pokemon games, things start to get boring and the graphics won't be considered really good so you would sometimes lose interest in it.

No. Start with Yellow. It's fun to have Pikashu follow you around. ^^ And since Lil' Chu won't follow you in the other games, MAKE IT LAST. Becuase you'll be bored with Yellow after you beat the Elite Four. :D

but the newer games are better than the old

Even if that is so, you must learn basics and the oldies! :D The new games are soo...over rated. Like they just make the games for money and not entertainment.
