well i would say 2 start off with one of the originals: blue or red (maybe yellow). You could go with the alternative of leaf green or fire red tho.

Pokemon Gold. 2 regions to explore, day or night system, daily events AND you get to fight Red/Ash after you beat the main story. Best Pokemon game ever imo.

I really liked Gold...but i reckon Fire Red or Leaf Green could be good for people to start with if they were keen.

I would say Gold/Silver/crystal, because then they can get more of a taste of the pokemon game ;Dalso they get to experience the night and day feature which is really fun.

Sapphire- The old games were too slow. Also, they were a lot worse in quality.

Let's see now...Red/Blue/Yellow since they are basically the first ones. If you want an update, or don't have GB/C, play FireRed or LeafGreen.Silver/Gold/Crystal because of the day and night system, and because there's nothing too complicated in there. It introduces the Unown, and it has both the Kanto and Johto regions in it, so I would definitely go with this. Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald is different in a few, or many ways - depending on how you see it - and it there is only the Hoenn region. No Kanto, or Johto. Diamond and Pearl...I would reccomend this if you know Pokemon really well, and/or have played at least one Pokemon game from each generation. This one is a bit too advanced for beginners.
