Leaf Green of Fire red are good starters. you get the orginals plus the benefits of all the updates.

Blue & redYellowGold & SilverCrystalRuby & SaphEmeraldseriously just follow order

I would say that too but I think that the first ones are too old for the generation of the today so i think that the best would be:fire red/leaf green/water blueruby/saphemeraldthen pkmn for gamecube.

Pretty difficult...I started with yellow. It looks a bit better and is just a bit more advanced than blue/red, but still considered one of the original games. I'd go for yellow.

Id say for a beginner? The original and the best of course, Pokemon Blue because it was the best, Leaf Green is good, but the original is always the best in most cases.

Start with the simple red version. It's better to start slowly and it's cheap

i agree that it should be the old red or blue versions, they're fun and addictive, but you won't find many people playing that nowadays so theirs no interaction with other people.

If its actually buying the game, emerald. But if its a rom, Emeralds sound has a tendancy to go scratchy, so fire red and leaf green ^.^

If you really like Pokemon, I'd start at the begging and work my way up. If you don't care though, I'd go straight to Emerald.
