Blastoise in my opinion has the best overal stat and element mix. The ability to use ice attacks in the original against venasaur was substantial.

Bublasaur. It would carry you through the first two gym leaders, and as it evolved it was a great backbone for any team.

I like charmander, however, the first two gyms would be hard for it so I had to train it to a charmeleon.

mudkip because it has the most useful attribute. Ground Water. The only weakness it have is grass.

The grass pokemon cos many of the legendary pokemon and whatnot, cover fire, water and electricity. So Grass pokemon becomes the most convenient choice.

I always chose the fire one, but in gold and silver i might choose tododile, but I just personaly think that there is alway a lack of cool fire pokemon in the game. plus Chamander is the coolest started ever, it's finally form is a freakin dragon!!! It makes the games a bit harder but it is definately worth the extra effort

I chose Chikorita because the legendary pokemon take care of the need for Fire, Water and Electricity and there is no grass elemetals, so it makes the party mroe efficient if you have a grass starter.

Usually I'd choose the water type but this time since my friend agreed to trading his I chose Cyndaquil, I guess he was alright, especially when he evolved.

My fave is Totodile but Bulbasaur is the best as the first 3 gyms are easier

The old ones, probably charmander, just because of the easy leveling. As far as the new ones go. It's not my favorite, but the game is 10 times easier when starting with mudkip, everthing seems to be weak against mud or water.

Heh, I liked the first generation. I am such a nerd I could have named all 151 (or however many there were at the time. It's been a while!) pokemon right off the top of my head. I lost interest when it got too hard to "Catch 'em all."

For the first saga, I would go for Squirtle or Charmander, even though I usually choose Bulbasaur, although I would recommend Squirtle. The problem with Bulbasaur is that its two part grass and poison, increasing the amounts of weaknesses. The one thing I don't like about Charmander is that when it evolves into Charzard, it's two part fire and flying, also increasing the number of weaknesses

I always pick the fire type. And occasionally squirtle. Charizard and typhlosion are my favorites.
