the water pokemon is always the best starter. fire loses easily to the first two gyms. grass is usually weak to everything.

I say Mudkip, cuz he was my first pick in Emerald and when ever Had him out i would just dominate!!

I think cyndaquil is the best starter pokemon because when i started playing pokemon silver and gold, I defeated lots of gym leaders and pokemon trainers..

as for favorite i would choose charmander cuz charizard is just too cool. but for necessities, always choose the grass pokemons. why? there are many good fire and water pokemon, but very few good grass pokemon. bulbasaur/chikorita/treecko has a lot of good Grass skills including razor leaf, solar beam and leaf blade. there are very few grass pokemons that has good grass moves and also good spec. atk. even if you use tms to teach your pokemon mega drain, it only has 5 PP compared to Solarbeam's 10, Razor Leaf's 25, and Leaf Blade's 15.P.S. Flamethrower and Surf can always be taught, cuz you can buy Flamethrower and Surf is a HM. But Solarbeam can only be taught once. i am cheap, so i always choose the grass pokemon as starters.

i've played whole pokemon with 1 charizard,so charmander is the best pokemon to begin with pokemon fire or bluefor gold or silver i choos meganium, so chicorita is the best there

Mudkip would be my fave because in emerald/ruby/sapphire beacause the gyms (rock, fighting, electric, fire, then, phychic (cuz solrock and lunaton r rock)) suit mudkip.(the third gym is good only if he evolved into marshtomp.)Also Water/Ground is good because water negate ground's weakness to water, and ground negates water's weakness to electic.

Definitely Charmander, because it evolves into Charizard, I'm good with Fire-Types, and Charizard is one of my favourite Pokémon, it's got good stats for an evolved starter, and it looks good.

I like the third one the best. I don't know if I'll try the fourth generation, because it's probably not too much of a upgrade to even be worth playing.

i like squirtle because it will have not only a strong defence it will also have a good attack but chrmender has better starting moves

I'll say Mudkip. I'm using him right now, he looks cool, he's got decent stats, and May's leaf Pokemon isn't dominating him like the other rival pokemon did from past versions. I'm in his 2nd stage right now, can't wait to see him evolve into his final form but that's quite a few levels away.

I always use fire pokemons as my starters...and the fact that I found them quite cute is also a factor

I like Torchic because it is a fire tye pokemon and when it evolves to it's last stage, it looks so cool!

i cant even remember its been that long since iv playedI chose cyndaquil cause it can learn moves at lower levels and it can beat the first two gym leaders easily through it's fire energy.

Yay, 69 other people agreed with me. I chose Totodile. I always choose water for some reason, yet I like Fire better. Why?
Thats nice and all but the rest of us real players don't need cheats.I think that mostly everyone picked cyndaquil or however you spell the name. I picked him the first time and then i cheated and used the PC glitch to get all the other starters so i didn't have to chooseHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
