Or even better....Get both games, a buddy with another DS, borrow his/hers, then get all three starters! Then you don't need to decide!i might be going for the fire/fight monkey as a starter, but grass/earth combo seems really cool as well. I might just flip a coin to decide ^^

While that is usually true, it's not so much this time around. The gyms in order are Rock, Grass, Fighting, Water, Ghost, Steel, Ice, Electric. It takes awhile to get to the first gym and on the way you can catch a budew (grass type has absorb) which cancels out the difficulty of the first gym if you picked Chimchar. Also by the time you've gotten to the first gym Chimchar has probably just evolved and gotten the fighting move Mach Punch. So the first gym really isn't an issue at all. Grass gym well you'll probably have the flying pokemon Starly or there's Ponyta to catch on the way to the gym sooo no hassles there.Theres a couple psychic pokemon on the way to the fighting gym and well theres Starly the flying pokemon who is probably the better choice since the first battle is against Meditite (fighting/psychic)Water, well you'll probably have a Shinx (one of the first routes and most routes there after have them, its an electric type) and Budew...you'll need both since you'll be against a Gyarados and a Quagsire.Ghost might be tricky, but you're bound to have a pokemon with a dark type move since so many pokemon get bite.Steel, well you'll have Chimchar or PonytaIce, same as beforeElectric, ground pokemon theres a few of them around, you can get geodude and onyx in the first several routes *shrug*Sooo the gyms dont seem particularly difficult regarless of who you start with since there are alternatives to all three starters just before you need their type.Type wise it would help if you know what the first couple gyms are to help you pick your starter like in fr/lg bulbasuar was good for the first 3 gyms, squirtle was good for the first gym and charmander had a disadvantage for the first 2 gyms.
