i'd prolly say Squirtle is also the best to start out with in blue or red

since the frist gym leader has rock pokemon water>rock =D.

My favourite is probably Torchic, although the pun is annoying. Simply because Fire/Fighting is such a unique type, once it becomes Combusken.

My first pokemon ever was charmander....have to love him, just because when i start playing a new pokemon, dont put it down until I complete....Charmander stayed in my party for my first pokemon game the entire time.

I liked squirtle. I'm mainly a water-type starter.Of course, the pikachu starter you could get when you played yellow was kind of nice too.

In theory Charmander is the best 1st generation pokemon cos his stats are higher (except defence) then the other two, but I preffer Squirtle. Blastoise kicks arse. After that its Cyndaquill and Mudkip. Havent bought Diamond/Pearl.

I say the water ones in the first two sets and the fire one in the last set. Water is a weakness of many types. The only reason water was not as good in the last ones was because there were hardly any fire Pokemon but plenty of water ones.

fire pokemon arent gr8 water is the best
