I've always chosen water types as starters. The fact that they can use Blizzard and Earthquake has always been a plus to me.Also, it's satisfying when using Swampert against somebody who doesnt pay attention to types keeps spamming thunder. :)

I gotta say back in the good old days for R/B i would always choose either squirtle or charmander cuz it was apparently "the hardest" and most challenging. I have to say pickachu would've been a great starter to for the yellow version of the game if they would just let him evolve!!!

i would think grass type (bulbasaur for fire red, treecko for leaf green) because it is veeery easy to fight the first 2 gym leaders and evenly matched the 3rd (by then u anyway are already gonna have more pokemon)[sry for my noobyness but fire red an leaf green ish the only 2 pokemon games i eva played :/]

I'd say Charmander, he's a fire type and just owns everything... but I will add the 4th generation Sinnoh pokemon SUCKED.

The best, in my opinion, are the fire starters. However, because I am always too lazy to do level grinding at the beginning, I always end up choosing the water ones. :)

Empoleon for sure. It's water and steel so it pretty much makes every attack not very effective. Its three weaknesses are electric, fighting, and ground, which can be beaten with the moves earthquake, drill peck, and hydro pump. Then add an ice move to take out grass, flying, and dragon types and it can beat any type pokemon. Its only real weakness is its speed.

Chimchar would be the best. When Chimchar turns into Infernape, it can learn Close Combat - 120 power attack and Flare Blitz - 120 power but recoil.Yet, it is still very useful.

In R/B/LG/FR I would say charmander-he may be hard to train at first but he becomes so strong later. In G/S/C I would say probably mudkip >> even though I always choose the fire type.In R/S/E I would say Treeco, I honestly can't think of a reason right now, but I do have one.And finally in P/D piplup because he is a great pokemon to have in his evolved stages.

all the fire types are the best to start with because at first you fight a lot of grass and stuff so it helps a lot trust me. I picked charmander, cindaquill and the other 2 fire ones...
