There's like several hundred reasons for a DS, so at this point I'm not really sure which one to go with, but in particular I liked having two screens, and had predicted the move to a folding handheld a few years back and needed something with more buttons because a and b really show their limitations after a while, right guys?

The DS lite I have now was my first game console. I guess I just got jealous of all my friends who have DS's to spend time on, so i begged my dad to get me one.

There were a number of DS games I enjoyed playing, but for most of the time I was content with using the emulator. (Why else would I be here? Heh.)
Then Ouendan/EBA and Trauma Center happened, and the mouse was not enough to keep up with these stylus-intensive games.
So I picked up a real one, and I'm not regretting this decision. The added bonus of finally being able to link-play Pokemon with my friends is icing on the cake.

Most of the games I emulated on my laptop was for the old ps systems and the ds. I really just felt more comfortable with DS games I guess. And also Pokemon X/Y happened and I wanted to get back in to the wagon.
