GTA games offer the freedom to do a lot of things, not everyone kills people, to kill the paramedics, to steal the fire truck. Some prefere to follow the story line, while others like to do the side quests/missions.Personally i like the story but tend to make a mess of the thinggs i meet along the way, as for the fire truck i just nick them from the fire station.

I think what people like about GTA is the level of freedom you feel, the map itself is huuuuuuge, and you can commit any number of morally questionable acts, allowing people to get away from the real world (like most games). That's why I think GTA is similar in many ways to alcohol. Personally, I'm not that big a fan, the gameplay is too simple and tedious for me.

Random, hilarious violence. It's a crowd pleaser, plain and simple. Who can resist a game that lets you get into a fist fight with an old woman on the street for no apparent reason, or create your own unique brand of hate crimes (throw molotov cocktails at the village people in the 80s dance club? Go on a chainsaw massacre through the Haitian community? Inflict blunt trauma on anyone wearing a hat?)The possiblities are endless.

People like to vent their frustrations on 3D sprites of a person with their own virtual weapons, I suppose. On that note...-pops in GTA- it's venting time.

because its so revolutionary. first game to implement the free-roam sandbox style of gameplay. not to mention all the freedom you get in the game, killing old ladies, then beating their corpses as pedestrians just wander on by. not to mention the jet pack.... oh the jet pack. hot coffee anyone?

In Gta you can pretty much what you like. In san andreas i liked linking a pile of tractors together and then driving them up the mountain. Damn, i love this game.

I love how you can do anything, and not be restricted to only doing missions. So basically the same stuff that everyone else likes.

The GTA series is alot of fun, GTA:SA had so much content with it if you got tired of doing one thing (gang wars) you could then try something else (street races) got bored of that? You could then do (robberies), got bored of that, you could do many, many, many other things. Now what they need to do is take all the content that exist in a game like GTA:SA, and make it an MMO, now that would be addicting :D
