if you are looking to make upgrades yourself thena computer is the way to go but laptops are more conveinent in that they are small. good luck fixing it yourself if it breaks though

I've got a laptop. It's nicer than the PC because it's newer. But I don't mind my PC either.

"A boy has the right to dream. There are endless possibilities stretched out before him. What awaits him down the path, he will then have to choose. The boy doesn't always know. At some point, the boy then becomes an adult, and learns what he was able to become. Joy and sadness forever will accompany this. He is confronted with a choice. When this happens, does he bid his past farewell in his heart? Once a boy becomes an adult, he can no longer go back to being a boy. The boy is now a man. Only one thing can be said. A boy has the right to dream. For those endless possibilities are stretched out before him. We must remember. All men were once boys."

Desktop all the way man. Seriously, I can't stand having to move around the cursor with a red dot or a slidy pad on the bottom. I know you can add mice, but then that just sort of defeats the purpose. Plus, my desktop is more trust worthy. At least he didn't explode when I installed Limewire on him. Stupid Laptop...

Uhm, Ok, what the h*ll is the point of this thread?I suppose I should tell about my computers now then. I use an IBM thinkpad, with a pentium 2 processor and WIN XP, and a dell latitude, also Pentium 2, also with WIN XP. I so long for systems with more gaming processing power, alas, I am stuck in the stone age of '98 technology....

Uh? :PIt all depends on what you are looking for.If you want/need something compact, able to be used on travel (portable), choose a laptop. On the other hand, if you need something somehow cheaper, with better compatibility (never ever try to upgrade a laptop...), easy to use and with a full-functional 103 keyboard, choose a desktop.Really. If you just want a computer for gaming, a desktop should be the best choice (performance/price).If you need to travel a lot and need to have your computer on hand, laptop owns desktop (it is almost impossible to travel everywhere with a full CPU + Monitor + Keyboard + Mouse).

ide have to go with desktop much more powerfull... also i cant stand the lcd on my laptop... some of it is darker in areas and theres less color depth. also theres 1 dead pixol, its fan is noisy and its battery dies very quickly when running Maya or a game. and being a big name brand it was $1800 and came with a Radeon IGP severly out dated video card bought it early this year also i hate ati.

I wish my computer was as good as yours. I would probably prefer a desktop because I don't think I would use a computer that much if I was on the go.

I prefer a desktop over the Laptop. I just don't like the feeling of the keyboard being so close to the screen. I'm weird, I know. =\

All about the laptop. Nowadays, laptops have caught up to desktops en every way. 17" screens, the top of the line video cards have gone mobile, procs that are the same PC parts, full keyboards, etc.

Well since I have to transfer my work to a laboratory sometimes to ask questions I have to have a laptop. You can also move it around randomly in your own home if you have wireless, or in general around campus (for those in post-second, or whatever) which makes it more interesting to study than just sitting at home.Of course, not everyone uses their computers/etc for studying.
