I can't honestly rate this game. I'm way to biased, as it's my favorite game of all time. Seriously. The plot was great, music was great, characters were great, villains were evil, world was cool, enemies were fair ('cept the damn weapons), and the graphics were swell (for their time).11/10

I give it a 9. I know that those were pretty much the standard graphics at that time, but they could have put a bit more work into it to actually give them hands and mouths. I do think the story is the best of any game I have ever played.

Final fantasy VII is a great game but i think that it pales in comparison to FF IX which had extraordinary graphics for its time an extremely engaging story and still managed to stick to its roots like you having an actual black mage in your party but if I had to rate final fantasy 7 i would give it a 9 out of 10

The plot and the gameplay are great, and the materia system makes the game even better.

Whats so good about it??Nothing really. Its the worst of all of the main FF games in terms of characters, story, and graphics. Dont argue...The 3D graphics werent even good for the time when the game came out, the plot was flat and something thats been done to death before and the characters werent anything special. The game has a lot of "fanboys" as it was the first 3D FF game, the first FF game on a different platform and the first FF game that many of the young kids on these types of forums played. Dont even get me started on the 'villianous' *sarcasm* Sephiroth. My sig states it all.

"Flat" is a really bad word to describe the plot. The plot was a convulted, mind-numbing mess, but I wouldn't really call it flat. It was definitely awful, but in a dynamic sort of way. Like Will Ferrell. 'Flat' things don't inspire nearly as much controversy as FFVII does. Now, FFV, there was a game with a 'flat' plot. But yes, FFVII has to have one of the worst stories I've ever seen in an RPG. It's just a mess.FFVII, really, is a game I feel will never get juuust the right amount of credit it deserves. The "hardcores" give it way too little, and condemn it as being the worst game ever (which is not even close)... The unwashed masses, on the other hand, hail it as the best thing since sliced bread (which is also way off)... It's somewhere in the middle. Which makes it the perfect representative for the series as a whole. Neither as great, nor as awful, as everyone says. People just need to realize that not only is there a middle ground, but it's okay to be part of it. Not every Final Fantasy has to be hailed as the best game ever, or the worst game ever.To get back on topic, though... The game is fun. After a few years thinking it was mostly underserving of its reputation, I forced myself to replay it a year or so ago, and once I got past just how awful the graphics were (and fixed up the TV's contrast and brightness and whatnot), I was presently surprised at how much better it was that I was remembering it. It's sorta like Chrono Cross, in that, when you're not playing it, it's kinda hard to remember what's so good about it, if anything at all..Yeah, the plot is awful, the characters mostly range from memorable but not good (Cloud, Aeris, Sephiroth) to not even memorable (the Turks, my god, how I feel nothing at all about the turks), but there are some good ones too. Tifa is probably one of the most well-developed (do ignore the obvious pun here) and likable characters Square's ever created (which is particularly amusing, seeing as how they've basically tried to retcon her out of existence in favor of Aeris recently.) Yuffie's awesome in a snotty, Rutee Katrea sort of way, Cid's an awesomely crotchety old man, and Red XIII, when he's actually relevant (like, one scene), is pretty awesome too... The materia system is just fun. Yes, there's the whole problem with all the characters being basically the same, but that's pretty much a Final Fantasy standard now, and has been since FFV. But there's just a huge level of customization you can do with it, and I, personally, get a deal of pleasure out of beating Emerald Weapon in a matter of minutes using counter attacks alone. It's also the only game in the series with a decent chocobo sidequest. So that counts for something as well, I figure. At least there's nothing as soul-crushing as Chocobo Hot and Cold to drag it down....That... Was a lot bigger than I planned. Yeesh.

Final Fantasy VII was one of the first games I ever played.First of all I think that FF7 have the best story line of Final Fantasy series.I spend over 100 hours playing in it ( I wanted too see all secrets).I've never won against RUBY WEAPON.Cloud is my favourite character from all FF series and SEPHIROTH RULES!!!!!The thing i liked about the FFVII battlesystem was of course the speed and the materia configuration system although i know you can quite easy become übergood in the end thanks to this.FFVII best. The materia system is intuitive, highly flexible, not too complicated, and gives opportunities for becoming exceptionally powerful, but makes them non-trivial to obtain (because you need to get the requisite materia).Outside of the ability system, it's nice that the battle speed stays more or less the same; it seems that if you have a higher speed stat, it makes the enemies slower rather than you faster. And most characters have good limit breaks, with the exception of Cait Sith and possibly Vincent.Another thing I really like is that the characters not in your party gain half EXP, meaning no-one can lag behind. Though that has its drawbacks: even less reason to choose anyone over anyone else, and means you can't readily grab a low-level party for an extra challenge.Main drawback is of course the extreme lack of character differentiation.

The story line, the characters, the materia system...the unbelievable depth of the game. best game ever made by far in my opinion. Althought is kind of hard to compare games from different genres.

I have never killed more brain cells than I did playing FF7. The gameplay combined with the awesome storyline was enough to make me almost burn my retennas out. I don't think I've ever played a game so hard or long (88 hours, I had to get and beat everything)

Knights of the Round alone took me about a day straight, I wanted to kill the guy who came up with the Chocobo theme song. (YOu have to race Chocobos in order to breed them over and over again, it sucks but the materia is the best ever.)
