Of course, you realize that Yellow came out AFTER Pokemon Red/Blue on the Gameboy Color, right? As for it being a whole different class, I disagree; it was the same kind of game, had the same basic point, they just added a real-time clock and a few other features to it as well as a whole new area to explore. My very first pokemon game that i got was Pokemon Yellow...and that time i thought it was the best ever! And the Pokemon Blue and Red Came out...And i got Pokemon Red First...it was so cool...then you could choose your starter pokemon, it was so cool...it was something different from Yellow...and then ofcourse Gold and Silver came out, and that was like a total different class of Pokemon Games! Hehe

Every game after Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue was just a rehashing of old ideas. The original two games were revolutionary. Every Pokemon game after Red and Blue were just a rehash of the formula that the first two created. I am curious how you view gold and silver as radically changing the game play enough to call the game original? The only Pokemon to be unique (for the franchise) after Red and Blue was Pokemon Pinball.i played blue first, though there isnt much difference. i disliked yellow, due to the lack of choice in the started pokemon. even though these games were amazing, i liked gold and silver better. better graphics, better gameplay, and the newest pokemon game that was still original. after that, theyre all the same.
