That'd be similar to my case only replace "dad's chores" with anything that may be bothering me at the time. Anyhow, certain video games (especially RPGs), utilize my imagination and let me become the character for a moment (similar to reading a novel actually) so in certain cases I can feel the emotions that character may have at certain points. For example, if I'm sitting helpless while a boss is beating the crap out of me like nothing, I'll want vengence and so level up like mad so to be strong enough the next time I meet said boss. This worked well for me in Lufia II as I was able to beat Gades during the first encounter (yes! without cheats) because I found an enemy that dishes out Attack Ups randomly. After my strength got to over 600 on level 34, I beat Gades and was rewarded with the Gades Sword and 50,000 Exp which was massive for that point in the game. This kind of thing gives a rewarding sensation that I (as the character) am the most powerful being alive (in the gameworld). Xenogears also had moments like this for other emotions (ESPECIALLY during the time spent in Solaris). To relate to reianayami's dad calling her for chores, it IS bothersome for me when I can interuppted once I am in this sort of Character Emotional Synchro Trance (CEST).It helps me to relax and move my thoughts away from the irl life botherings (like dad calling me all day to do chores)
