i don't like them. i'd much rather play real sports.i enjoy games in which you do things that you can't do in real life, like gunning down hundreds of hajjis, or run down about 53 thousand zombies with a delivery truck.

I don't hate sports games, but I definitely play them a lot less than the other genres. Why do I dislike them?Well, I'm impartial to sports in general, so it shouldn't be surprising. Now, playing sports; I can do that, although it's very rare. Judging from this, you might think that since a game is involving to an extent, I'd at least be somewhat interested in playing some sports titles, but no. There's only so much you can do with a specific sport, unless a game designer decides to twist the concept of it into something significantly different from the actual sport. Due to this restraining fact, sports games tend to lack variety. This would be okay if I liked playing them already, but I simply don't. If I wanted to play a sport, chances are I could easily play it in real life, in much higher quality, with maximum interaction, unless, of course, you prefer messing around with the rosters and all that jazz; then I could see a reason for buying such a game.

im curious, personaly i love sports games... mario golf, madden, nhl, nba live, theyre all great, but people r always saying how they hate sports games. :( jus curious y :(

Well, it's easy to see how someone could hate sports games. I mean, there's a new re-iteration for each sport every year, that generally isn't all that different, and as soon as the newest sports game is out the one that you got last year (or maybe even last month) would now get more worth if it were used as a frisby as compared to the value that a game store would give for it on a trade in. :( lol The responsibility really lies in the hands of the developers. They could very easily just push out another piece of junk every year because the hardcore fans would always buy it, or, they could really put some effort into it, and maybe, just maybe, people other than hardcore sports fans would buy it, and therefore, new sports fans could be born. This really goes on beyond just sports games. Games in every genre can be criticized with this same scrutiny. Are developers just going to stick Final Fantasy on a pile of dead fish and sell it because they know that their loyalists will buy it, or are they really going to put some effort into it and create something that all gamers will agree is a great gaming experience. This just gets stuck on sports games more often since there is generally less that can be changed in a sports game from year to year than can be changed in a RPG, FPS, RTS, etc. from year to year. I like sports games, but I generally prefer "fake" sports games (i.e. Mario Kart, F-Zero, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, etc.). However, there are plenty of great "real" sports games out there too. I think many people just tire of developers who keep putting out junk year after year, and game retailers who rip us off on trade-ins. Also, as has been said by other posters, generally, if people don't enjoy something in real life (like sports), they won't enjoy it in a video game (unless it's something that can't be done in real life. :( lol). But that is where the developers have to step in and make those games that really redefine the boundaries of the genre. Hope this was informative, and not to long. :( In Christ's Love, Cody Alan Rushing

Lol I don't really hate sport games it's just sometimes they just seem pointless like for instance why play as that guy when you know you can't control him like he controls himself in RL why not just play Soccer/Hockey/Basket/Tennis/Rugby/Football at the park instead of wasting your life on this pointless game?

I like certain sports games. Those on Wii Sports are fun, probably because you get to actually move as you play them. Some racing games are all right, too. Mostly Mario Kart, and Mario Golf isn't bad. but I probably enjoy those because I enjoy the characters. I can't get into those Madden things and all that nonsense because I am not interested in sports and really care nothing about the NFL or the NHL or ... whatever! So I'd say most people had sports games because they just hate sports LOL that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Sports games are dumb because they make my eyes ache. And what's the point of playing a game of a sport when you can just waltz outside and play the real thing?

I'm not a big fan of sports games because although they try to emulate real sports, they will always come up short. Why? Because all you need to do to throw a perfectly accurate spiral is to press a button when in reality, it's much tougher in real life. I also don't think as high a level of skill is needed in sports games when compared to strategy or FPS games. Granted, they've tried to make it more difficult to pull of amazing plays, but it all comes down to reflex and timing. There are no complex button combinations or advanced techniques needed to pull it off. That's why I think you can only get so good and then it's like, eh, anybody can do this. Real skill games are games that you can keep getting better and better at, with a higher goal always there.Super Smash Bros. is a good example. You can only get better, and there is no cutoff point where you master the game. Sports games are a lot about luck and knowledge of the game, but less about SKILLZ.

Agreed. That is my exact opinion on sports games. However, I make an exception for motorsports since I don't have immediate access to Ferraris and Aston Martins. Other than that, if most people had the same opinion as Balore and I, Madden would've died in '96.

I'd say I'm in the 'sport games haters' group, cuz they're really boring, and technically have no storyline.

The reason i dont play or like sport games because why not just go outside and do sport? the reason i play FPS is because you cant go on the streets and shoot people, even soldiers dont get to shoot people that often infact they never get to. I'd much rather do the sport instead on using an animated character doing it for me.
