I don't think Mario should quit just yet. After all, he IS the Mickey Mouse of Nintendo. Will Mickey ever quit? I highly doubt he will, same with Mario. He is one of those ageless, timeless mascots. We all love Mario :o

There is no way that Mario will ever be retired so long as Nintendo still exists. He is the main character of the entire company. He is basically their mascot. Thats why there are so many different kinds of Mario games being created all the times. They put a great deal of effort into maintaining him.

Mario is the heat and soul of Nintendo. Mario is in his prime, he's been so for years. They only need to retire him if he becomes like Sonic. Sonic hasn't had a decent console game in years. Though the games on the DS are pretty good.

yeah i agree with most of the people on the board. there's no way you nintendo could get rid of mario he's an ICON! I mean he was the main character all the way back to the original donkey kong... having said that i also say that he should be used in any game nintendo can and wants to put him in i mean what would have happened if they didnt bring him over from the orginal donkey kong to the original super mario? and besides they've been doing it for so long (think Dr. Mario and especially Mario Kart!!) so no way long live mario and rock on nintendo

i think that Mario is the grandaddy of platform gaming and gaming as it is today, but at the same time nintendo could do well to pool what they've got and find another deal breaking franchise to make

No. Mario is Nintendo's BIGGEST icon. Taking Mario out of Nintendo would be like removing Godzilla from Toho Co., Ltd.

Absolutely Not! Mario games are consistently fantastic. They set the benchmark for every Nintendo console, and each generation they show platforming done right. The First game was awesome, and the newest Super Mario Game (galaxy 1) is a work of art that will be remembered for years to come. There is more life and longevity in mario than in any other franchise.

I think Mario is still alright. I know when it came out on N64 and was all 3D, I was like "What the **** is this ****?" I can't play this. Super Smash Bros is really fun.As per Nintendo's reputation, I hate what they are doing in stomping out "piracy" they make the DSi not take flash devices so everyone has to get new ones and lots of newer games don't "just work" you have to patch them or something.

Saying Mario should retire is saying that we should get rid f video games. After the Atari crash he was there to keep the industry going and still is as far as Master chief and whoever mascots they are just temporary, Mario is forever.

i think the old games are fun, but i think sometimes companies push things to far, so i think it would be good if they phased mario out, or even improve games like super smash bros.

not to anger a few people, but Luigi finally needs some more respect! i know he's player 2 in almost every main mario game and he's been featured in mario is missing and Luigi's mansion. Toad could have a spin off game and see if people want to see other mushroom kingdom characters too.

I think Mario have made quite the reputation for himself as a decently capable character. The games still work and are enjoyed by sooo many people that they can't stop making games with him if they want to keep increasing their profit. However, it's true that the "sub-characters" deserve some more attention. That curse have afflicted many, many game characters so far and that will probably never stop.

do you think nintendo should stop making mario games and focus on making a new mascot? Another question would be what would that say about nintendos reputation?PS gotta leave will edit the thread to clarify my questions

Nah, Mario's an old classic that I have a feeling will have a spot in many gamer's hearts forever. If they took him out of the situation, where's Nintendo? The first thing most people think of when they think of Nintendo is Mario.
