The ones with the best storyline is probabaly the Final Fantasy Series. 7, and 10 were great! ^^

FFX because the story was unpredictable at times although FF7 was good but that one's translation was terrible; but then FFX had some stupid voice acting. And although Killer7 isn't an RPG, it has a very deep and well-written plot that's only understandable through multiple playthroughs of the game

Tales of Phantasia is good for me, it's quite complicated though

Ya...best, eh? I'd have to go with the Golden Sun series for GBA. Also, most Tri-Ace/Square-Enix joint games turn out really good too(eg: Star Ocean series, Radiata Stories).

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 1+2 for the PS2 had an awsome story infact i kinda wish they made a 3rd part so it would continue.EDIT: Almost forgot about the Hack.GU series for the PS2 the story spans accross 3 games and it still leaves you wanting more.

Finaly Fantasy 7 was fantastic, but Lunar blew it away easily. I would definitely recommend it even though its for playstation and the graphics are pretty bad.

I play Shadow Hearts for it's story rather than gameplay. FF7 is another of my favs of course and while it wasn't RPG quality, Devil May Cry 3 didn't have too bad a story. And the whole of the Jak and Daxter series has a great story.

Interesting call on dmc3, but while it does have some RPG elements, I think that the mission system made the story a little to disjointed for me to really get into. I'm a fan of Legend of Dragoon and Golden Sun for this one.

For me it's a tie between FF6 (FF3 in the U.S.) and Chrono Trigger.

For me? Odin Sphere and Terranigma.Odin Sphere has something almost shakespearean about it, but not so esoteric that you'd need Cliff Notes for it though :DAlso, with Terranigma, there's just something about single-handily resurrecting the world only to be meant to destroy it that gets to me

I particularly like FF X's story, but I think that's because that was the first RPG I ever played. Nostalgia is a huge factor in that game's greatness to me.

I really like the Xenosaga trilogy. But Xenogears and the Tales series are also great stories.

I'll agree with everyone who said Earthbound. The overtones of the story were fun and a bit funky. but it had some deep undertones that you really can't miss. All-in-all, Earthbound is the best game on the planet, hands down.
