Name: Rune Factory: Shin Bokujou MonogatariGenre: SimulationRelease dates: Japan 08/24/2006, US Unknown, EU Q12007Developper: Neverland Company: Marvelous__________Harvest Moon: Rune Factory

Nintendo must really be pushing its new DS WiFi service on the development community, as publishers keep on announcing new compatible titles. While Sega's Bleach and Taito's Lost Magic were added to the network-compatible list a few weeks back, the latest Famitsu reveals that Marvelous Interactive's Rune Factory: New Harvest Moon will be joining them.Rune Factory's network mode seems to be somewhat limited. Players will be able to exchange messages with friends and open up a shop to sell items. There should be a few other network features beyond this, although we've heard nothing about actual cooperative play.In case you were absent at the announcement a few week's back, Rune Factory is a new take on the Harvest Moon series. Developed by the Neverland Company, the game includes the farming elements of a traditional Harvest Moon title, but adds battles and other RPG-like elements. You play as a young boy who was found unconscious in a town, having lost his memory. This boy is capable of a special magic called Arscode. He takes up land just outside town and begins building up his own farm.In typical Harvest Moon style, you'll have plenty of freedom with your farm and home. In addition to raising crops, you can add furniture and a custom floor plan to your home. Gameplay makes heavy use of the DS's touch pen, allowing players to fleece their sheep and pet animals directly.Communication with other characters play a big part in the game as well. You'll be able to take part in festivals and go out on dates. A young 16-year-old girl who takes up land outside of town seems to serve as a heroine role in Rune Factory. The biggest difference that Rune Factory has from other Harvest Moon titles is in its new RPG aspects. As you adventure over fields and through dungeons, you'll be able to collect materials that can be used to create new items, equipment and furniture. The game includes a real time action battle system where you equip skills and equipment to your character and face off against monsters, making use of magic spells that you cast with the touch pen. These monsters can be drafted to work on your farm.Clearly a different approach to the Harvest Moon formula -- hence the "New" Harvest Moon. Marvelous is planning a Japanese release for some time in 2006.

Discuss the game here !! ;)

Sounds like an amazing idea...Harvest moon games have always caught my interest for a short time - but the inclusion of this new battle system'll bring a breath of fresh air to the series. Roll on 2006 ;)

After seeing some of the scans and screenshots I'm kinda interested. I've played the some of the other Harvest Moon game(my sister owns a few) and I had some fun foolning around and such but I never really got into it. But after seeing this I might actually get it.

Wtf no way! This is HARVEST MOON? The game where you plant plants, water them, take care of animals, and attend to festivals. An addicting RPG where you act as a farmer is now going to have a battle system? That's just not right.

Rune Factory is actually a part of the Shin Harvest Moon game...as well as the Innocent Life for Psp...The main character of Rune Factory is not Jack anymore : and for sure...this game still consists parts of living and farming...!! Maybe it's weird for the first time...so we'll need to wait for further info and previews about the game...I'm a huge Harvest Moon fan...so I'm rooting much on it !!

I'm less concerned with the addition of battle and adventuring (which could be a good thing even though it's something most people never thought of in the scope of Harvest Moon) and more with level of interactivity. I think one of the most appealing and addictive things about Harvest Moon has always been that level of interactivity with the world and it's ocupants. What would be really impressive to me is having a more dynamic character interaction. Where the things you say and do effect how react to you rather than a numerical love/hate value based mostly on things that you bring them as gifts. The idea of customizing the house is also awesome. I kinda got sick of looking at the same floor lay out in the old Harvest Moon games. Chances are that even with the new combat addition, it'll still be a fun and addictive game unless they added combat just to add it, then that'll be kinda silly. Most likely you can avoid combat all together however if you prefer the simple farm life and don't want to deal with monsters. You'll miss out on certain items and aspects of the game no doubt, but still probably be able to enjoy it.

Wouldn't this defeat the purpose of the HM series?.....I mean it's a nice idea, but it seems really odd for a farming series to all of a sudden be an epic adventure....

Not really. How many movies / games start out with a hero who lives a simple life and is thrown into conflict? Even ordinary farmer people can have epic adventures can't they? :P

I agree with Chopsticks and Whitelens myself. If they're going to have battle systems, they should change the name! It's not Harvest Moon at all!

I love the sound of this game, the harvest moon games are great and adding an rpg element will just take it to the next level. I love the idea of the monsters you defeat in battle will then be able to work on your farm. Excellent , roll on 2006. :D

Really... this "Harvest Moon" shouldn't even be called a Harvest Moon... Jack just doesn't fight (unless he turns to Jack the Ripper)... They should just change the name from Harvest Moon to something else.. This defeats the sole purpose of living on a simulated farm.

Yeah, afraid I gotta agree with DarkIce & the others...while the new RPG system will bring a breath of fresh air to the series it just won't be harvest moon. The idea with HM was that it was an original concept when it first started and stands out as being completely different from the majority of the RPGs out there, but still manages to be just as entertaining without needing any fighting...this feels too much like the team is selling out...guess the game's just started to lose its integrity in its old age :D
