Im also into the newer different version of castlevania where you can use different weapons instead of a crap whip... it strays from castlevania but they somehow manage to keep the feel of the original type... But i would say SotN or AoS

Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissoneance and Castlevania 2 (nes), but Symphony of the Night rules.

I personally liked the 2nd and 3rd for NES, SOTN for PS1 and the GBA versions. I've yet to play the PS2 one, but I've heard many good things about it. Actually, all the Castlevania games are solid, except the N64 bombs. Geez, what were they thinking when they came up with those "gems"...Servo

I think I liked the original Castlevania game the best, the one where you could play as the guy with the spear OR the guy with the whip. Now it seems you can only play as the guy with the whip...

My favorite one is also Symphony of the night, along with Circle of the moon for GBA. But I kinda fear those 3D castlevania games...

I like the one on N64, though the originals on NES are tough to beat.
