Sephiroth (FF7) is way, way overrated. All he's got a big sword and mommy issues. Instead of having no development, his character development just makes no sense ("I just found out I may not be human, so I think I'm going to slaughter all my friends and develop an Oedipus complex"). Angsty bishies belong in anime, NOT in my video games!

Well, I do agree that Sephiroth is overrated but his development did make some sense. My memory about the plot has a few holes but if a person suddenly finds out he's not human, I find it pretty natural to take distance from your friends for starters (I don't think he had many friends though). Not only was he not human, he was created by humans for no reason out of an experiment. Being shocked at the discovery of being not human makes him unstable and learning that his existence has no purpose makes it even worse. When you find out you're different from others, you would naturally want to find a safe place since humans tend to treat people that are different as monsters and his answer being Jenova is pretty normal which explains his "Oedipus complex". Humans tried to stop him freeing his mother so for an unstable person, you would see it as humans stand in his way to be with his mother, hatred toward humans is a giving there. I forgot why he wanted to destroy the world though but I do believe that hatred toward humans is a reason good enough to do so.Anyway, favorite is Sephiroth because the other FF villains pretty much suck >_>
