dude it has to be knuckles, shadow is another hedgehog who uses floaty roller skates... knuckles punches people! PUNCHES PEOPLE!!!! and hes jamaican and jamaicans rules. Also knuckles and sonic were rivals first, then shadow just joined because he wanted to look cool!

Shadow isn't very cool, he has an annoying voice and doesn't do much to sonc exept call him fake hedgehog. Knuckles punches sonic in the face and laughts about it, I think they should fight eachover again.

normaly, i'd probly pick shadow, BUT, metal sonic is more of a rival, he's more like sonic and is still against him, shadows become good, and he has chaos control, meaning he has completely different abilities

Shadow is garbage. He is basically a gothic mirror image of Metal Sonic, but with more emotional scars. Metal Sonic is hardly a rival; He is/was designed to stop/kill Sonic more than anything.In the end, Knuckles is the only real alternative.On an unrelated notice, sprite comics are no good.

Metal Sonic is kind of iffy, because he's not much of a character. He's just another robot built by Eggman, so there's no suspense in the end, because you know Sonic will win because he's the original.Knuckles has become something of a joke. Really, does he do anything but play second fiddle to Sonic? I think Knuckles was clearly beaten in S&K and accepted it.I don't really like Shadow, but at this point he seems to be the best choice. He's also the closest contender to Sonic in terms of abilities anyway.

I personaly like Metal Sonic. I just hate Shadow, he won't stay dead. And besides he matches Sonic in every way.

I'm gonna have to go with Knux on this one. Being the rival from S3&K onward (still a friendly rival of course) he has the most experience fighting with sonic.Shadow doesn't even try to be a rival to Sonic anymore, he only did for his part of SA2 and then they became super-saiyan... errr... super sonic and super shadow to defeat Biohazard and the Ark.Metal Sonic isn't really a rival, it's just Robotnik controlling a metal counterpart of Sonic to kill/destroy (use whatever word you feel more comfortable with) the blue blur, never mind there are still several other Metal Sonics (Silver Sonic, S3&K Metal Sonic, Hyper Metal Sonic (Sonic OVA), Sonic CD/Knux Chaotix Metal Sonic, SA2 versus mode Metal Sonic, etc. etc.)In the end Knuckles truly deserves it, as he has been dealing with Sonic since the Angel Island incident.

Knuckles is the most enjoyable rival. He's different and has an enjoyable personality and isn't just a sonic clone. He actually is a different person and that is what makes him cool.

Poor Robotnik... He's been left off the list, even though he's fought Sonic more times than any of the choices above. He deserves some credit for all his boss fights

Shadow's probably the closest match to sonic as a rival than any other characters...That's just my opinion though...
