The N64 version didn't have enough defensive moves. Melee has tons of them along with more unlockables. In a game like SSB, it's all about the unlockables. Plus, the characters are more evenly matched in Melee. In the original, there were some charatcers that rocked and some that just plain sucked. (Note: this isn't because I'm not good with them, it's because I have yet to see someone do good with them)

Melee is probably better in every aspect. The only gripe I had with it is that Ness was made much slower.

Melee had more stuff but it also wrecked the game a bit. The places got a bit smaller and alot of the characters are just copies of others. C Falcon = Ganondorf. I didn't think Melee took the game as far as it could have gone.

N64 rocked, since Kirby was rigged, but that's just me. I wish my friends were better at it though, need a challenge x.x;

Both of them are awesome games. I would have to say melee is better only because its the newest one and has more characters, stages, etc. However N64s physics are a little off which actually makes it funner. Also there are a few added features in melee that make it easier for new players(eg. analog stick smash)

With the N64 version it was like a trial run of an idea. Not much depth but a whole lotta fun.When Melee showed up it was the same idea taken for miles with the bells & whistles plus the kitchen sink.N64's single player lasted 2 or 3 days for me while Melee lasted at least a sold 2 weeks. Multiplayer was oodles of fun. Just so much to do.

Shiek is love. There is no Shiek on the 64 version. D:But there are some courses I miss on the 64 version. Like Link's Castle. D: *sob sob* But overall, I enjoy the GCN version better.

Melee is good, but there aren't that much characters to choose from as they're mostly the same; those that aren't are no good. I had more fun playing N64 than Melee, probably cause I was younger, but I only played melee for two weeks before it got boring. You get all the characters and then blah. It's dead boring.
