Although I always sorta liked the original because I could emulate it on Project64, I'd still have to go with Melee, because it simply feels smoother, has more stages, more characters, more play modes, more everything.

i like the original, only because i don't care about s 1p super smash bros. and there's no smash attack shortcut, so some no one can spam the c-stick. it makes the game more fair.

Meelee is slightly better, just for the reason its a bit more advanced, if you had the n64 one i see no reason to get the GC one but it was still quality

Melee the speed is perfect and the control stick determines attacks. The air game is what makes Melee the best by far as well.

Melee is obviously better. There are so many new items, attacks, characters and stages.

yea, melee is better, but for its time, N64 version was an amazing game, melee is simply an extension of that and brawl is gonna knock it out of the park (I hope :X)

i like melee more. The whole thing was better and a lot faster. The only problem is that everyone's size in melee is just about the same (they seemed very different height-wise in the n64 one).

Melee, since it does have more of a variety in stages, extras, characters, and a whole bunch of others that the first one just doesn't have. Oo; I think it has like 20+ more characters between the first and melee.

Melee but in the First one, when someone gets hit, it seems to do more damage its like POW! instead of Melee's pow. Well thats what i think.Though melee just has a lot of new things like wall teching, wall jumping, air dodging, (wavedash wasn't made on purpose i think)And Link's Recovery Techinique is so much better, he was (somewhat by a lot of people) rated as the bottom two characters in the first one. With Ness, Pikachu and Fox being the top 3.
