I like melle more because of the larger character selection and the larger amount of content to the game.But i think some aspects of the N64 version make certain characters more interesting as their moves game a greater effect of the opponents.

i'll have to say that melee is better on the amount of character you can play as. but for the playing fields i would have to say that smash bros is better.(1)

I used to only have the original Smash rom, and then grabbed Melee for the Cube when I went to college. In a fool move, I got rid of the Cube towards the end of the semester. Now, I'm back home, and once again only have the original Smash.Melee ... there's just more to it, so there's more fun. More levels, more characters, more items, more possibilities. It's about twenty times easier to get back to the stage in Melee. The visuals are sweeter. Some characters got axed (Kirby comes to mind), and some got a little tweaked (I miss Samus's old bair), but a lot of good changes were made (DK kicks more donkey, as does Mario, Luigi ... and dear god, the Knee).The original smash has its good points ... but honestly, folks, I just missing doing those mid-air dodges. Those were nice.And Mr. Game and Watch is so much fun.

I would have to say Melee is just way better. The origional was great though. In overall comparision, most people will agree the GC beats the N64 in this case.

i like meele better because theres more characters and better levels, but i do love links stage in the 64 one.I've played both of these games, and I have to say I like the N64 version much better. Granted, I have the N64 version and only play Melee and friends' houses, but here are the things I like about the older version. You have to work to use smash attacks, the directional tap and A, rather than just tapping the analog stick, which can get pretty cheap. Also, there is more time in the air to use aerial attacks, because in Melee, the falling is more realistic, with acceleration as you fall towards the ground. Any other thoughts?

Gotta be Melee. But I think that the excessiveness of characters in Melee made it a little...well...It felt a little weird. I guess 64 didn't have enough characters though.

Am i the only one who thinks that the comparison is near impossible to make? Both games are great, no question. But the graphical enhancements offered by the gamecube over the N64 allowed for much more to be done in Melee over the original, but the concept of the original was something unparalleled at the time which gives it this huge nostalgia feeling whenever i get a chance to play it.

I like both of these games (have them both) but i would say n64 version was more exciting than than the gcube one..i mean when the n64 version came out it was mind blowing!

I say Melee completely overshadows the original Smash Bros.Melee has more characters, more stages, and features the original didn't have.But I don't mind playing the original either. It's great too.
