i fell like i'm all alone on an island on this issue. all my friends say they like melee but for me n64 is so much better. the is so simple yet there is nothing missing. you can't add or take away anything to that game and it takes a lot more skill. in melee the moves are mostly too long unless you play on lighting mode and then its just a button mashing game. N64 forever!!

I play both games but I think SSBM is better because it has a lot more characters and stages and it has more features like Events, Home Run Contest, etc.

i like the N64 version better it was simpler, and more fun, it wasn't just about the great graphics it was about the unique gameplay, characters and there awsome specialised attacks. the gamecube version was to hyped up for me.

I prefer Melee, its an upgraded version of the original. They added new maps, new characters and altered the battle system.

I believe that the melee version is better, you can so more on it, and they have more characters than the nintendo version.

Ok, first I gotta say this topic is a bit weird. In my opinion, is praticaly obvius that melee is way better... MUCH better graphics, a damn lot more stages, more game modes, you can do tournaments (always wanted that on the old SSB), Slo-Mo Melee, Lightning Melee, Stamina Mode, Camera Mode, Home Run, well, you got my point.About the first comment: you don't need to use the C analog to use smash attacks (actualy, in 1P mode, you can't), besides, you can charge the smashes on Melee! Also, in Melee, you got one more special attack, you can collect trophies, see them and read stuff about it. Now, one thing that I got to remember, are the graphics. Nowadays, when I play SSB, I just... I got no words to describe... it gives me creeps. In Melee there are 25 characters, while in the old SSB there are only 12! Is less than a half! Well... I wrote too much already... but here are the things I like about the newer version. ^^

Yeah, while SSB was a lot of fun SSBM is an obvious upgrade for the better, and hopefully the results of brawl will be the same

Melee is easily a better game.Throws are not completely overpowered anymoreIt is not as easy to combo all over someone so that they cannot do anything.Air dodges are a good feature. The thing I liked most about the N64 version that was not in Melee was the bumpers. They were really cool and actually useful, but now they are just weird spinning things

I've played both of these games, and I have to say I like the N64 version much better. Granted, I have the N64 version and only play Melee and friends' houses, but here are the things I like about the older version. You have to work to use smash attacks, the directional tap and A, rather than just tapping the analog stick, which can get pretty cheap.

but in n64, you can't charge up a smash, wich make you wanna use tap+a anyway. you can't charge a c-stick smash.

Also, there is more time in the air to use aerial attacks, because in Melee, the falling is more realistic, with acceleration as you fall towards the ground.

i like the realism, it makes it harder to execute air strikes eficiently, increasing stratigy.

Any other thoughts?

also, in melee, there's the adventure mode, the trophies, tournaments, coin matches, more characters/items, and so many extra features that just put it over the edge. not to mention the kick arse grafics. those are my opinions.
